No Time To Die: 5 Facts About The New Female 007, Lashana Lynch

$

A series of character posters of the new “James Bond” film “No Time To Die” have just been release. One of those posters include franchise newcomer, Lashana Lynch, who will play the new female 007, Nomi.

Although she may not be James Bond, rumour has it that she is indeed the new 007 with the number being an agent’s code name for the British spy agency. Hopefully this will make it more accepting to long time fans, who often associate the number to the quintessential British male spy.

So with that out of the way, let’s find out more about our new 007, as we think many would agree that beside her role in “Captain Marvel” much of the British actress information is still very much unknown. That being said, here are 5 facts that we think people should know about the “James Bond” newcomer.

1. Made her film debut in 2012’s “Fast Girls”

Source: Pinterest

The 32-year-old started her film career in 2012 in the film “Fast Girls”, which was about a group of girls that team up for a British track team and race for glory in the World Championship. Lynch starred as one of the girls named Belle Newman. The film received relatively good reviews from critics, but never really took off anywhere outside the UK.

2. Jamaican descent

JA! It’s been real! Lickle more ✊🏾

A post shared by Lashana Lynch (@lashanalynch) on

The actress was born in Hammersmith, London on 1987 and is of Jamaican descent. Seeing as some of the scenes in the upcoming “Bond” film was shot in Jamaica, we think this will be a perfect opportunity for the Brit to catch up on some of her Jamaican roots.

3. Her audition in “Captain Marvel” made the director cry

Lashana Lynch
Source: Hype Beast

The London native breakout role internationally was of course 2019’s “Captain Marvel”. While her role in the film didn’t receive a lot of screen time, it was enough to showcase her talent. According to film director Ryan Fleck, he revealed to Empire that during her audition, the actress managed to bring him to tears.

In addition, the actress had also auditioned for a role in another Marvel film, “Black Panther”. While she didn’t get the role, she still got herself into the Marvel Cinematic Universe eventually.

4. A fan of Maya Angelou

For those that don’t know, Maya Angelou was an American poet and singer who sadly passed away in 2014. The “Fast Girls” actress has said that she learned many lessons, from the poet, that will stick with her for the rest of her days.

5. Criticised for taking the role of 007

Source: LADbible

James Bond or not, just by taking over the code name of 007 has earned her considerable backlash from long time fans, who didn’t want to see changes done to their favourite character. When asked about it during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the “No Time To Die” actress simply answered that she doesn’t let the backlash bother her but instead she sympathised with the fans.

“It doesn’t dishearten me,” states Lynch. “It makes me feel quite sad for some people because their opinions, they’re not even from a mean place — they’re actually from a sad place. It’s not about me. People are reacting to an idea, which has nothing to do with my life.”

Oh and if you’re wondering about those character posters, fear not as we got you covered below:

Daniel Craig (James Bond) & Ana de Armas (Paloma)
Lashana Lynch
Ben Whishaw (Q) & Lashana Lynch (Nomi)
Rami Malek (Safin) & Lea Seydoux (Madeleine Swann)

The new James Bond film “No Time To Die” is set for the cinemas on 9th April 2020, and we can’t wait to see how they will send off Daniel Craig’s character from the franchise.

Jordan’s concert had a rough start though. A protest took place outside of the concert venue where people were shouting slogans. It took 70 policemen to handle the situation and get it under control so that the show could go on as planned.

I can finally hold my Taipei concert,” the 52-year-old singer-actor told the crowd. “I’ve always waited a long time for this! I apologise for the wait. I want to thank every single one of you: thank you for your true heart. Taiwan was the first place that recognised my singing. I also want to thank Taiwan for giving me the opportunity to record my first Mandarin album. Taiwan has beautiful food and beautiful people.”

During the second half of the concert, the entertainer paused to announce Cherrie Ying’s pregnancy. The couple only found out last month about the new addition, adding that the expecting mum is now 3 months into her pregnancy, but the gender of the baby is uncertain.

According to Reuters, the trigger for the review was due to a reported “inbound interest” that seems interested in Tesco’s operation in Malaysia and Thailand. However, no information has been given by the company over where the interest is from.

Currently, 30% of the Tesco Malaysia is owned by Sime Darby, which operates the Tesco supermarkets in major cities. However, Sime Darby group is recently looking into trimming its operation on what they considered non-core assets, with the supermarket chain being one of those assets.

Our representative for Miss Universe, Shweta Sekhon, was among other contestants who found themselves in somewhat of an embarrassing situation during the swimwear segment of the live show.

Based on the photo as well as the video available below, it can be seen that Shweta was having difficulty walking the slippery runway in heels. As a result, the 22-year-old eventually tripped and fell while doing her walk on stage.

Source: YouTube

The incident not only impacted Shweta (full name Shwetajeet Kaur)’s catwalk, but other contestants from France, Indonesia, Malta and New Zealand also experienced the same fate as hers. A few staffs on duty immediately took action and wiped the floor after that.

Fans were left fuming upon seeing the video. In this case, many of them slammed the organisers for their negligence on not making proper inspection on the stage. On the other hand, the girls have received praises from netizens for their professionalism. Some crowd in attendance also gave standing ovation to show their support.

For those who are interested, check out the clip of the incident below:

In another news, it was recently revealed that Sheweta has managed to snag the “Best National Costume” category! For those who don’t know, the “Peranakan”-inspired dress was designed by renowned couture designer Carven Ong.

Despite the exciting news, there was a little controversy that happened surrounding both Shweta and Miss Universe Philippines representative Gazini Ganados. During the announcement, both the prompter as well as MC Steve Harvey wrongly announced Gazini as the winner instead of Shweta.

Source: Twitter

Despite the prompter mishap, it was finally confirmed that the Kuala Lumpur-born starlet emerged as the winner in that category and brought home the glory.

Major congrats to Shweta!

UPDATE:

It was recently revealed today (Monday, 9th December) that Steve Harvey’s announcement was indeed accurate. In this case, the winner of the National Costume competition belongs to the Philippines and not Malaysia. Find out more here.

CCXP: 5 Things Marvel Revealed At Comic Con Experience In São Paulo

A host of studios were in attendance at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil last weekend. This, of course, was to promote some of their upcoming projects for films and television shows.

One of those in attendance was Marvel, who revealed some juicy new information regarding their upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. So without further ado, here are 5 things Marvel revealed in CCXP 2019.

1. First look at “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier”

No concept art this time, as both Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are dressed casually in the first look of the series. “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier” will be the first among a number of MCU series coming to Disney+, with the show’s release date being set around August of 2020.

2. First look at WandaVision

Marvel also gave audiences a first look into “WandaVision”. The image shows Wanda and a very human-like Vision sitting on a couch in a heavily 1950s sitcom inspired setting. This almost confirms that Wanda has created something like a pocket dimension, where she was able to connect with her long lost love. The show will also be connected to upcoming Dr Strange movie “Dr Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness”.

3. New Black Widow poster

A new “Black Widow” poster was revealed at CCXP, along with an extended “Black Widow” trailer. The extended scene showed humorous interactions between Melina Vostokoff aka Iron Maiden (played by Rachel Weisz), Alexei aka Red Guardian (played by David Harbour) and Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson). In addition, the extended clip showed some action scenes with Taskmaster, but it didn’t add anything more to the plot.

4. Footage from “The Eternals”

Exclusive first footage of “The Eternals” was shown at CCXP by Marvel, with Marvel head Kevin Feige taking to the stage. In the footage audience saw, the cast members were in full costumes, located in different locations, to showcase the diversity and international casting found in the film. Noteworthy scenes include Ajax fighting a horde of monsters and the romance between Sersi and Ikarus.

Feige teased after the footage that “The Eternals” will be “unlike anything you’ve ever seen before” and “What’s going to happen to redefine and change the MCU in Phase Four.” “The Eternals” will be arriving in cinema on 5th November 2020.

5. The next major Avengers team-up

Source: The Disinsider

When Feige was on stage, he talked about the possibility of another grand team-up in the same vein as “Avengers: Endgame”. He assured fans that the plans for the idea are already on the way, but, noted that the company is committed to providing exceptional stories for each of its movie release.

“The MCU is all interconnected, but we really focus on one movie at a time,” Feige said. “We’re going to make the best ‘Black Widow’ movie we can possibly make, the best ‘Eternals’ movie we can make, the best ‘Shang-Chi’, the best ‘Doctor Strange’, ‘Thor’, ‘Captain Marvel’, ‘Black Panther’…and keep evolving their stories.”

He then concluded, “Then, yes, it is always fun to see them come together in a master plan. Which is, I promise you well-underway.”

Miss Universe 2019’s Best National Costume Belongs To Philippines Instead Of Malaysia

$

Local fans’ excitement didn’t last long as it was announced today (Monday 9th December) that the real winner of Miss Universe 2019 Best National Costume category belongs to the Philippines and not to Malaysia as revealed earlier.

The news was made via Miss Universe’s official Twitter account, just hours after the initial tweet. Not only that, it can be pointed out that Steve Harvey had initially gotten the winner’s name correct. Looks like his mistake of announcing the wrong winner for Miss Universe back in 2015 didn’t repeat itself.

The mixed-up final results have in turn received massive amount of outrage among the internet community. Most of the netizens were siding with Gazini Ganados (Miss Universe Philippines representative), arguing that she should have gotten her own time to shine instead of giving the wrong spotlight to Shweta Sekhon (Miss Universe Malaysia).

On the other hand, some pointed out the organiser’s unprofessional manner in handling this issue. Some even accused them of initiating unnecessary drama for cheap publicity. Check out some of their tweets here:

The previous tweet that showed Shweta winning the category has been deleted at the time of writing. The 22-year-old Malaysian beauty has yet to give any comments to address the issue.

Comic books fans in Brazil had a blast last weekend at Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in São Paulo, Brazil. Both Marvel and DC were present at the convention with each of them vying for fan’s attention.

In addition to Marvel, we are also looking at what new information was provided by Warner Bros. for their DC Extended Universe at CCXP.

1. “Stargirl” is DC Universe’s newest super-heroine

Source: We Got This Covered

DC announced their third original live-action series with “Stargirl”. The upcoming show is said to be a more light-hearted series compared to DC’s other live-action series such as “Titans” and “Doom Patrol”.

The series is also said to be teen-centric and will see the Justice Society and Injustice Society as a major plot point. Unfortunately, the leaked teaser trailer of “Stargirl” at the convention was taken down by DC’s request, so hopefully they will be releasing an official one soon for the public.

2. “Birds Of Prey” at CCXP

Cast members of the highly anticipated “Birds Of Prey” received a warm welcome at CCXP in Brazil. Fans that were lucky enough to be at the event got to watch some footages from the film, and first dips on 2 new posters. Unfortunately, the footages shown and the posters wasn’t publicly available during the time of writing, but rest assured that we will keep you updated when it does.

The flick is set to release on 7th February 2020 and will be a R-rated film, following the success of another DC R-rated film, “Joker”.

3. Sequels “Shazam 2” and “Aquaman 2” confirmed

It’s official, Warner Bros. also announced the sequels to the DC films. Though, it should be pointed out that it was obvious that they were going to do it. Actor Zachary Levi will be returning to the sequel as Shazam, but no official production date has been announced for the film just yet. However, Levi did estimated that production could start as early as June 2020, which would fit nicely into DC’s plans. Likewise, Jason Momoa will also be reprising Aquaman.

4. “The Batman” is coming to CCXP in 2020

Source: Comic Book News

Director Matt Reeves is bringing “The Batman” to CCXP, next year. The director recorded a video message to fans at the event, delivering the announcement to a roar of cheers from fans. Production of the new film is expected to start early next year, with the release date for the upcoming Batman flick already being set on 25th June 2021.

5. “Wonder Woman 1984” trailer

Probably the most exciting news that has came out from the DC booth at CCXP was the new trailer for the upcoming “Wonder Woman 1984”. Much of the plot of the film is still being kept under wraps. However, we do know that Chris Pine’s character will be making a return with the setting being place in, well, 1984.

We were told that a picture would be displayed if we made it to top 20 and if we don’t , we would have to put it on. The entire day the crew went on finding my costume as I was told to be the WINNER. That is why I got into the costume too.

The K-pop community has been hit with a wave of bad news recently, so hearing something positive for once is a much needed welcome. That being said, we would like to congratulate actress Jeon Hye-Bin (전혜빈) on her marriage.

The 36-year-old tied the knot with an unnamed non-celebrity on 7th December in Bali, Indonesia. The wedding ceremony was a private event with only families, relatives and close friends being in attendance. This was also to respect the husband’s privacy.

A post shared by 전혜빈 (@heavenbin83) on

Taking to her Instagram account, the “Leverage” actress let all her fans know about the happy news. The post featured a short video of her in her gorgeous wedding dress and a lengthy caption that reads, “Hello, this is Jeon Hye Bin. This year has been so special for me. With many things going on, I met a person I love and am now making an eternal promise with him,” she wrote in the post.

She then continued, “he has a great character and personality, and he is able to connect with me deeply. We are much happier and more stable when we are together, so we decided to get married and live for each other.”

“With the sudden wedding announcement, I was not able to even tell those around me. I was worried that it would interfere with the my drama,” she wrote, “and I was worried that it would cause a disturbance to the family who will be welcoming me. Please understand and I hope you will still be willing to give your congratulations.”

She further added, “I will become a bride who can take care of him, always make him happy and lucky. We will be a couple who can share with each other and experience good things. Please watch over us with love.”

Jeon Hye-Bin

Again, we would like to congratulate the “Liver or Die” star and her husband on the marriage, and wish them nothing but the best for their future.

Big Hit Entertainment Responds To False Lawsuit Allegations With BTS

Yesterday (Monday, 9th December), JTBC “News Room” (뉴스룸) came out with a shocking report that members of BTS (방탄소년단) were considering on filing a lawsuit against home label Big Hit Entertainment over profit distribution as well as contractual dispute.

As a result, ARMYs have been dying of curiosity and demanded answers from the entertainment agency itself to clarify the whole situation. In response, Big Hit immediately took action and finally issued an official statement earlier today (Tuesday, 10th December).

Source: Soompi

The full statement reads:

“Hello, this is BigHit Entertainment. We want to announce our company’s stance on JTBC NewsRoom‘s report made last night at 8pm. The agency’s opinion was agreed upon by BTS members and their parents. Before we reveal our personal opinions on the matter, the agency, BTS, and the members’ parents can’t help but ask why JTBC would report this kind of news.

The contents of their reports are untrue. Currently, neither BTS nor BTS’ parents are considering taking legal actions against us. We are unsure on what exactly the reports are referring to when they claimed that there is an issue between BTS and the agency in terms of the profit division, but we are currently discussing with BTS about an issue that has no affect on our exclusive contract. If they are referring to this issue and exaggerated it to seem as if there was a dispute, then they’re far from the truth.”

Big Hit

Additionally, Big Hit further came out with a point-by-point statement to shut down the false allegations surrounding the issue. Feel free to read them here (as translated via Koreaboo and Kstarlive):

1. BTS asking for legal advice from a large law firm

“After reading the reports, we proceeded to confirm with the BTS members and their parents. It was revealed that the parents visited a law firm located in Kangbuk 2 months ago to ask about some issues regarding the exclusive contract (video content business related information). Their visit did not proceed any further, and the law firm also did not formally give them any legal advice.

Since then, our agency and BTS have been continuing our discussion regarding the issue, but it is not true that a dispute stemmed from this issue as stated in the report. Especially, the contents in question are just one of the many projects underway between our agency and BTS. Even if a problem does arise, it is only a sub-section that cannot affect the contract as a whole.

Thus, the reports that claim BTS are preparing to take legal action with our company after a significant issue was not resolved well are completely false. Instead, they sought legal advice and are currently discussing it with our agency. JTBC reported the claims without getting all of the facts in order.

Big Hit

Additionally, our agency has always encouraged BTS and their parents to actively seek external advice from accountants, lawyers, and more about finances, settlements, and the law. This is because BTS’s value continues to grow each day, so we believe it is important for BTS as a group, or the members as individuals, to seek external opinions.

In accordance with this, our agency and BTS have an important partner relationship, and we recognise that disagreements can occur at any time. We are resolving any and all issues through active discussions and will continue to do so regardless of the level of seriousness.

It is not true that BTS or their parents are looking to take legal actions against our agency due to limiting situations, so we demand for the answers on why such news came to light.”

BTS

2. BTS on planning to take legal action against Big Hit over profit division and contractual dispute

“BTS currently has no intentions to take legal action against their agency about profit distribution or their exclusive contract. The media wrote reports using negative terms such as ‘differences in position,’ ‘conflict,’ and more to make it seem like the agency and BTS are having a serious dispute. We would like to express deep regret over the reports that seem to be encouraging conflict.

In regards to the contract renewal signed last year, the agency and BTS went about (drafting the contract) with the acknowledgment of each other as equal partners. The process of contract renewal was not simply because of BTS’ growing value. After a lengthy discussion between the agency and BTS about their contract renewal, we proceeded with the most exemplary contract renewal in the industry.”

Big Hit

3. Other issues on connected reports and activities.

“Immediately after the news was released, there were reports on other entertainment agencies that were unrelated to Big Hit. We deeply regret that they tried to link the agency with issues that have nothing to do with us.

JTBC made exaggerated claims without checking the facts properly. They not only tried to link the agency with completely unrelated issues, but they also showed conduct that makes us question if they are indeed a media outlet that strictly follows the journalistic code of ethics.

As if coming to the agency’s office without prior consultation and asking questions without any explanation weren’t enough, they entered the building without an access card and used footage filmed inside without permission for their broadcast. It seems as though they knew it would be problematic, as they decided to delete the footage filmed without permission before posting it online.

Source: JTBC

“We have CCTV footage of the JTBC reporter’s intrusion as well as the video used in their first report. We believe that as much as the press has the right to ‘freedom of speech,’ they need to follow proper procedures and policies when covering news. In this sense, we plan on filing a complaint regarding JTBC’s violations.

No matter what JTBC’s intentions were when reporting the claim, the reports are not true. JTBC exaggerated part of the content and reported it as if it were true, and the agency and BTS have been harmed by the reports linking us to unrelated issues. We believe that JTBC released reports without following even the most basic of procedures and demand a sincere apology and response from JTBC.”

What do you have to say about these reports concerning Big Hit?

KL Standard Chartered Marathon Named The Worst Marathon In The World

Yikes! It was announced recently that this year’s Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) – one of the biggest and much-anticipated events of 2019 – was called one of the worst marathons.

According to a research done by UK-based trainer review and media outlet known as The Sole Supplier, KLSCM has topped the list of “World’s 10 Worst Marathons”, scoring at 3.69 out of 10 points – the lowest score out of 81 marathons across the world.

Source: Facebook

Some of the major factors that led to such low score would be due to Malaysia’s hot climate, and the air pollution as a result of the haze not long ago. Besides that, the lack of medical assistance during the event was also cited as one of the reasons for the yearly event to top the list.

Besides KLSCM, the IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon held at Delhi, India came in at 2nd place while Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon was ranked 3rd, scoring at 4 and 4.18 points respectively.

Source: Facebook

As mentioned above, The Sole Supplier is a sports media outlet based in the United Kingdom. Some of the main points for the conduction of the survey include the weather conditions, average time spent, registration fee, as well as the altitude, room temperature and air quality.

For those who are curious, take a look at the worst 10 ranking here:

Neelofa Reveals Why Sister Ameera Khan Deactivated Instagram Account

Neelofa has opened up on the reason why her youngest sister, Ameera Khan made the decision to deactivate her Instagram account.

According to the celebrity-entrepreneur, she doesn’t want the power of the social media to influence her rational thinking.

Source: Pinterest, Google Image

“She’s currently taking some time off from social media, actually. As a growing up teenager, she had to deal with a lot of people’s perceptions. She also tends to compare her life with everything that she sees online. So, she feels like… she’s not perfect enough,” Neelofa told Media Hiburan.

“She was the one who told us that she wants to take a break, as she feels that all these things make it feel like it is slowly eating her. She doesn’t want her thoughts to get affected,” the “Pilot Cafe” actress further added in the chat.

When asked about her reaction towards her little sister’s decision, Neelofa responded by saying, “As a sister I will definitely give my support. I told her, ‘It’s good for you because you’re undergoing phases of growing up. Furthermore, you’re still searching for your own identity and (the influence of social media) will indirectly affect your well-being.’

“I hope people can give her some space to mature in her own way and not through social media trends. It was a pity at first, because when she deactivated her account, a lot of clients were asking on her whereabout. In this case, I told them, ‘Please respect her decision. She needs some privacy for now. She will be back soon,'” Lofa concluded the chat.

Miss Universe: Deborah Henry, Elaine Daly & Amber Chia Show Support For Shweta Sekhon

Miss Universe Malaysia, Shweta Sekhon, may not have won the “Best National Costume” prize, but she certainly has won the hearts of millions. This is evident by the amount of support pouring her way from fans, celebrities and even a former Miss Malaysia.

Arriving back in Kuala Lumpur today, Sekhon was all smiles as she touched down. Her composure and grace during the pageant’s controversial decision have earned her praises from local and international fans alike, and even Miss Malaysia 2011, Deborah Henry, who the 22-year-old’s described as her “all-time girl crush”.

Speaking to The Star, the KL native showed her love for the former Miss Malaysia. She praised the TV show host and model on her confidence and body language, while also sharing some other prominent figures she looked up to.

“I just love the way she carries herself and speaks, plus her self-confidence and body language,” the Miss Universe Malaysia 2019 told the newspaper. She added, “Some of the other icons that have inspired me as a model are Tyra Banks, Kendall Jenner and Cindy Bishop.”

I can’t wait to make you all proud ! I AM UNSTOPPABLE 🇲🇾💪🏻❤️ . . . #MissUniverse #MissUniverseMalaysia #MissUniverseMalaysia2019 #RoadToMissUniverse #ShwetaSekhon #BeautyBeyondYou #YourBodyYourSay

A post shared by Shweta Sekhon 👑🇲🇾 (@shweta_sekhon_) on

Sekhon should be happy to know her love for the “Bella” host was mutual, with the 34-year-old sending her love in the form of hearts in one of the models’ Instagram post. Malaysian supermodel, Amber Chia, also chimed in on the praise, telling her fellow model “Well done” in the same Instagram post.

For those unaware, the Miss Universe controversy started when host Steve Harvey was thought to have made another mistake by announcing Miss Philippines as the award winner instead of Miss Malaysia.

The official Twitter account of Miss Universe even posted a tweet announcing Miss Malaysia as the winner. However, just hours later, a new tweet was put up announcing Miss Philippines to be the actual winner of the category. The previous post about Miss Malaysia winning the “Best National Costume” category was then removed.

This mismanagement, understandably, had made quiet a lot of people feeling less than pleased with this year’s Miss Universe pageant. One of those people was Miss Universe Malaysia’s national director, Elaine Daly, who took to her social media to express her disappointment with the pageant’s management in a lengthy post, in which you can find below:

View this post on Instagram

I am extremely disappointed at how the Best National Costume announcement at Miss Universe has come to this. A few hours ago, during the live telecast just after the opening round, Shweta was asked to go backstage to change into her National Costume for it to be showcased as Best National Costume, and that’s what she did, and conducted interviews as well. When she came out, the host Steve Harvey announced Philippines as the winner and even when he approached to talk to Shweta, he still assumed he was talking to Philippines she of course corrected him and said it was Malaysia and not Philippines. And she continued to explain her costume. Malaysia, who has never been placed at Miss Universe nor won anything, rejoiced! 4 hours later, we found out via Twitter that Miss Philippines was the actual winner. I have taken sometime to reply anyone because I was waiting for an explanation from the Miss Universe Organisation. So I emailed Paula – the President and asked her to please clarify, Paula replied me and said that Philippines won the online voting, but the producing staff backstage picked their favorite and wanted to showcase her. However this was not explained on the show. To everyone who watched it, it was like as if Malaysia had won. Because why would you put a delegate in her costume, have her do interviews and then tell her that she actually didn’t win but was just the producing staff’s choice . I’m speechless but it is what it is. To all of you who have congratulated and made us feel special, I thank you. Shweta and her national costume will always be a winner to us. I mean, we did get all eyes on Malaysia and we got to show off our culture and heritage right?

A post shared by elainedaly (@elainedaly) on

Hopefully this mismanagement will not repeat itself in future events and we wish our Miss Malaysia, Shweta Sekhon, all the best as we all know she will be back soon enough, stronger than ever.
