The cultural clash between neighbouring countries Malaysia and Indonesia has been a sensitive topic.

Recently, our representative for the Miss Grand International, Mel Dequanne Abar wore a wayang kulit-inspired outfit, complete with its significant traditional crown for the promotional shoot for the beauty pageant. However, Indonesians are laying claim that the outfit is a part of their culture.

Based on this post by Miss Grand Malaysia’s official Facebook page, the dress is adapted from the Hindu’s Ramayana (“Hikayat Seri Rama”). The folklore tale is no stranger among the community of Kedah and also Kelantan.

As a result of the cultural clash, there has been some debate going on among netizens. Some even claimed that even the UNESCO has verified that wayang kulit culture is Indonesian.

Twitter user known as Nadia J (@AchuNadia) decided to step in to address the ongoing argument. According to her, the wayang kulit does not belong to one country only, but it’s a part of several cultures and traditions around the world. Check out her tweet here:

However, the tweet has been deleted by Nadia at the time of writing (Thursday 10th October). Despite the dispute, many feel that the issue is not worth fighting over. Since Malaysia and Indonesia are neighbours, it’s normal to share a few aspects when it comes to culture as well as traditions.

Apart from that, some also shared that wayang kulit is not an exclusive property of Malaysians and Indonesians only. Other parts of the country like China, India, Nepal and even Turkey have their own rendition of the way they portray the performance.

Hong Kong bad boy Edison Chen (陳興華) recently found himself a victim of collateral damage simply for wearing his favourite red Rockets jersey (he’s a huge fan of the basketball team).

This came after Houston Rockets’ general manager Daryl Morey posted a controversial tweet of an image with the phrase “fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong”.

Interesting situation going on with Rockets GM, Daryl Morey, right now:

Morey’s tweet resulted in the Chinese Basketball Association cutting ties with the Rockets. CCTV 5 (main sports broadcaster) and Tencent (NBA’s exclusive digital partner) have announced that they will stop airing Rockets games.

Naturally, Chinese fans were triggered with Chen’s recent photos of him sporting the Rockets jersey and asked him to delete them. Several netizens even questioned if the 38-year-old actor is indirectly supporting the Hong Kong protests.

“Houston Rockets insulted China. Please delete the message,” someone wrote. “Brother, are you ready to remove the jerseys from retail shops?” another asked, referring to Chen’s upcoming clothing collaboration with Yao Ming (who was once attached to the Rockets).

In case if you’ve missed the news, SuperM (슈퍼엠) has finally made their much-anticipated debut recently and are currently making their presence known in the US.

As mentioned earlier in our previous article, the mega K-Pop group consists of 7 male K-Pop idols from popular groups including EXO, SHINee, and NCT.

Dubbed as an Avengers-style K-Pop band, SuperM are indeed a force to be reckoned with. Fans have grown to love the members that are talented in various skills including singing, rapping and dancing. We’re sure that the group will go far, probably more so than other existing units in the industry.

Questions started to rise whether there will be a female version of SuperM following the success of the mega boy band. In this case, netizens have came out with their own list and speculations on which SM female idol is worth in filling the spot for the large scale project.

Jackson Wang (王嘉爾) has just received an unexpected “gift” from a die hard female fan.

The GOT7 member was performing at the group’s world tour in the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands when he realised that a brassiere was seen flying from the audience seat before it landed on the platform.

The 25-year-old was seen curious after coming across the flying bra. Curious, he then tried to get closer to the white object to find out what it was. In the short clip that has gone viral online, he was shown pointing his finger towards the item.

After taking a closer look at the bra, it came to his realisation that the flying “thing” was a bra. Jackson was stunned after knowing that and he quickly walked away from the scene. The undergarment was later removed by the stage staff. Check out the full clip here:

Louis Koo Tin-lok (古天樂) is apparently ready to tie the knot with someone special.

The Hong Kong actor send fans into a frenzy after he dropped the announcement that he’s gotten engaged. “I have just gotten engaged. Good night. The end,” said Koo.

The video clip was taken from a broadcast at Hong Kong singer Kay Tse’s concert. Koo, who is the current president of the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild, sparked screams among the audiences present at the time.

Following the surprise news, the internet have put on their detective hats to find out who’s the lucky lady in question. At the top of the list is obviously fellow TVB alumnus, Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), who just turned 49 last month.

The pair recently celebrated her 49th birthday together with the crew on their forthcoming film, “A Witness Out Of The Blue” (犯罪現場). Hsuan plays a blind landlord while Koo portrays a suspect of a heist at a local jewellery store. The movie also stars Philip Keung (姜皓文), Louis Cheung (張繼聰), and Cherry Ngan (顏卓靈).

Back in July, rumours were already circulating that the rumoured duo were getting serious. However, the actor’s team denied the news. Likewise, Koo’s manager has once again come forth to explain that Koo was only playing a newscaster in Tse’s music video.

Wednesday was a sad day for over 800 staffs of Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd as their contract with the publishing company had come to an end.

The termination of the their contract was due to the publishing company’s ongoing financial difficulties. As a result, all of the employees were asked to clear their belongings and vacate the office.

The sudden news was addressed by Executive Chairman, Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir. As written by AmazingNara, the company has decided to announce their voluntary bankruptcy.

The gloomy atmosphere during the occasion was captured by the local news outlet’s photographer. The pictures were then uploaded by a Facebook user known as Encik Info Dot Com.

River Huang (黃河) recently found himself in an embarrassing situation when something personal of him made its way online.

It was a video of the 30-year-old Taiwanese actor masturbating in a temple. The 109-second clip, which was reportedly taken 8 years ago, has since gone viral on the internet.

Netizens who watched the revealing video shared that Huang standing in front of a table while pleasuring himself. The cute-looking star was seen moaning and swearing. “On and off, Huang can be heard moaning and as he was about to ejaculate, he can be heard uttering the F-word,” Sin Chew Daily reported.

Sources clarified that the masturbation video was meant for Huang’s then girlfriend. They have since broken up after she couldn’t handle his work commitments. The act was reportedly taken when the actor was filming a series a few years ago while he was still a University undergraduate.

Since the old video leaked, Huang’s manager has insists that the actor “feels regretful, but does not feel as if he’s done something wrong”. Some speculate that it could be one of his many girlfriends that sold the video in return for cash. “It could be because of these relationship debts that forced them to release the clip,” the Taiwanese publication wrote.

Fellow actor James Wen shared his 2 cents on the matter, saying, “Who does not know how to masturbate. The people should instead pay attention to how the clip went viral and protect the victim”.

Huang’s management agency has stated that they do not get involved in their artistes’ personal matters, commenting that Huang “is a professional actor. He is not an idol”.

Rihana Oksana continues to stir controversy over her newborn son’s identity.

Daily Mail reported that the Russian beauty queen is seeking the help of a judge in Moscow. Her plan is ultimately to go head to head with Sultan Muhammad V in hopes to establish the boy’s paternity once and for all.

The Russian court is able to demand a DNA test from the former ruler. Should the father in question refuse or fails to show up at hearings, the court will “invariably accept the paternity claim”.

It is believed that Rihana had “filed an unreported paternity petition to the Dogomilovsky District Court of Moscow”. As aforementioned, her settlement demands apparently included “a £24,000-a-month allowance for the child, a £1.2m Moscow apartment, and later an £8 million home in London”.

The ex-king’s lawyer previously claimed that the former King had proposed “a significant and generous sum of money” to the new mum in exchange for his privacy.

Clearly both parties didn’t reached a consensus as Rihana has been using her Instagram account to share her story. She also teased that she might open a YouTube account soon.

The Muslim girl was seen posing in close proximity with the 21-year-old heartthrob. They even held hands together in the picture to top it off. In addition, she detailed the whole conversation she had with Shawn during the brief meet-up on her caption. She also shared that she was able to hug him a few times.

As a result, the comments were filled with fellow Shawn Mendes die hard fans who shared their excitement with Hanna. Some also expressed their envy towards Hanna for being a lucky fan herself.

However, not everyone has been happy with the post. In this case, a local K-Pop fan using the tweethandle @lightseobin started to question why a religious girl like Hanna has crossed the line to pose in close proximity with the “Stitches” hit maker.

She took to Twitter to bitterly address the issue about the community’s shallow view when it comes to K-Pop music. In addition, she claimed that “only western artistes are allowed by JAKIM”, thus throwing shade to people who disgraced K-Pop music followers.

For those who are curious, Sayantan claimed that if the riders “showed no interest in doing their jobs, they can always give them to other rider. The main point is, if you don’t want to work (for FoodPanda), we’re okay because rules will never change if you continue with the strike.”

His statement in turn received a number of negative reactions among local netizens. Most of them expressed their disappointment towards the managing director for not doing his job properly in taking care of his worker’s welfare. Some also felt that his statement came out as insulting and showed no respect towards the riders.

In addition, it’s reported that the rating of FoodPanda has dropped significantly as a result of the backlash. According to VOCKET, the rating of the app decreased from 4.4 points to a only 1.3 points.

“Nights Of Fright” is back at Sunway Lagoon, and this time they are pulling all the punches in making this one, the best yet.

Now on their 7th consecutive year, the yearly event has become a staple for thrill seekers and horror fans alike. Fortunately enough, last Friday was their media day, and team Hype got to experience it firsthand. We’re excited to bring you all the news about the creepy and crawly and what to look out for beforehand.

1. The Rules

Before we get started, here are some ground rules that you might want to follow when you enter this event.

• The minimum age for the event is 13 years old and above, so remember to keep the kids safe at home.
• No costumes, full-face paint and mask, we wouldn’t want people to confuse you with the real monsters do we?
• No touching the scary actors and actresses, remember if you don’t touch them they won’t touch you.
• No photography or video recording in the haunted event, nobody likes a spoiler.
• No outside drink and foods allowed in the event and haunted attractions. Let the monsters and ghost be the only things to worry about.
• No re-entry allowed, so make sure you enjoy all that you can before you exit.
• Smoking is not permitted.
• No refund due to inclement of weather.

2. 9 Haunted Attractions

Now with the rules out of the way, we can finally start with the main attraction. As said beforehand, this is the biggest “Nights Of Fright” ever with 9 haunted attractions build from the ground up, with one more than past events, just to keep up with the demands. So here are our thoughts and highlights of the event.

I. Sharknado Alive!

A lot has been said for Sunway’s newest movie theme attraction and a lot of effort was made to sell it, and it shows. Even the idea itself, a theme attraction about the horror/comedy movie about sharks and tornados was simply an absurd idea on why something like this was even made.

Is the idea absurd? Yes. Was the movie ridiculous? Absolutely. But we were completely sold by the craziness of it all, with the amazing visuals, great workers, impressive gimmick and sharks, this was certainly the surprise of the event.

II. Amazing Workers

Often times in events like this, the most common of workers are almost always ignored. Though this might be hard with most of the them charging towards you (they won’t bite, sorta), we here at Hype would like to give praise to the costume designers and hard workers at the event.

III. Animalium

Probably the most frightening event we got to attend all night (personal bias anyway), was being lead through a claustrophobic maze of cages filled with deranged humanoid animals. It was certainly heart racing. The atmosphere and the acting commitment of this attraction site certainly makes it one of the best out there.

IV. Scare Zones

Hold tight to your snacks and hold back on your scream, as the bright (or dark minds) of Sunway have set up scare zones in between attraction within the event. So if you wish to enter Horrorwood Studios from the Sharknado Alive attraction, be prepared to face a group of monsters ready to give you a good scare.

V. Scary Tales Theater “Bomoh”

As long as we can remember, the Night Of Fright event always has a film ready to be aired at their theaters. This year was no different, with this year’s addition filmed entirely on site – “Bomoh”.

3. Things To Remember

Please noted that this is an (mostly) open air event. So even though most of the attraction will be air-conditioned, you’ll have power through the humid air while waiting in line. Do wear comfortable shoes cause you be doing a lot of walking and waiting in lines throughout the night.

By bringing out the word deconstruction itself, it can be understood that the main message they would like to portray is to express the youth’s feelings of being rebellious and stepping outside of their comfort zone. One of the highlights for this collection would be the use of unique and absurd elements such as care instruction labels are inverted and displayed externally on the shirts.

Apart from that, graphic designs of sample orders, crop marks and blueprints that bring forth an essence of rawness and individuality are also heavily featured in their latest collection this season.

The clothing collection also experiments the mixture of dark and vibrant colours including black, orange, purple and grey. The combination of the colours managed to create an unprecedented dark contrast that will be able to portray the cold tones of fall and winter season.

For their outerwear collection, their latest addition this time around sees many experimental designs of different types of textiles and materials used for their bombers, fleece, denim and also dual-toned jackets.

Additionally, their signature hoodies are also making their anticipated comeback with a more loose-fitting silhouette featuring variations of the label’s trademark signage and emblem. This glowing unisex jacket (as pictured below) is one of our favourites for this collection. Check it out here:

The return of 90s heartthrob Sham Visa has received widespread reaction among local fans thanks to his recent appearance. The 43-year-old now sports a more suave look with his thick beard and moustache complete with a pair of glasses to complement his new and improved image.

Most netizens felt that his new look resembles Robert Downey Jr.’s famous character Tony Stark a.k.a Ironman! Check out his then and now photo below:

For the uninitiated, Sham (real name Rohisham Hashim) found mainstream success as the main vocalist of the rock band Visa. He then went on a hiatus to focus on his full-time career offshore.

Despite the positive comments, he was attacked by online trolls who accused him of going under the knife in order to look exactly like the Marvel superhero. “I can’t give any comments about the reports. Some said that I’ve undergone plastic surgery to look exactly like Tony Stark. But I want to thank my dad for giving me this face,” the singer-actor said in an interview with Awani, implying that he got his facial feature from his father.

The “Dalam Gerimis” singer further added that he doesn’t want to take the rumour too seriously. Instead, he wants to put his attention on his comeback in order to fulfil fans’ request to see him being active again in the music industry. In case you don’t know, Sham is currently competing for the 6th season of “Gegar Vaganza”.

“It’s been a while since I last performed on stage, so I have to focus on my skills in singing, vocals and other things. One of the main reasons I agreed on joining “Gegar Vaganza 6″ is because of the fans. Most of them have missed me performing live. So, for that reason I decided to make an appearance through this platform,” Sham commented during the session.

Hugh Jackman might have step down from the role of Wolverine, but the bromance between him and “Deadpool” actor Ryan Reynold is certainly alive and well.

Hugh who just turned 51 over the weekend on 12th October received a more than welcoming video from his friends and fellow Marvel cohort Ryan, 42. In the video, Ryan did more than just a simple happy birthday wish as the video also doubled as a response to what Hugh said during one of his Broadway performance.

After performing one of his songs during a Broadway show, the “Logan” actor poked fun at Ryan by telling his audience, “Let’s see Ryan Reynolds do that.”  Hugh instantly regretted the line and told his audience not to post the joke because he will get “like three million tweets from him in the next ten seconds.”

Unfortunately for Hugh, the word did spread and it did not take long before it reached Ryan who promptly responded with a video on Hugh’s Birthday, wishing the Aussie a happy birthday but with a twist.

“I was just going to wish you a happy birthday,” he then continue. “Then I saw what you said. In a word, hurtful.” The seemingly sad note was then followed up by a fake last word and a hilarious fakeout, “Enjoy the show, Hugh Jackman”.

A few seconds later he came back with a with a passionate performance of the “Happy Birthday” song. He then proceed to end the video with an epic finale with “And I’m not f**king professionally trained you Jackman, you piece of shit.”

Hugh took to social media to response to the video as he captioned it with “At first I thought – Ugh, now I have to actually apologize. But then …“. Of course, all of this was just all in good fun, with the pair calling for a truce later on Instagram.
