We’ve been longing for the potential “Bad Boys 3″ to happen, and it’s finally in progress!
The original “Bad Boys” movie, which soon became a full-blown action flick franchise, starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. And now, it is being reported that the duo will return to Sony Pictures‘ highly anticipated sequel “Bad Boys 3″ with Joe Carnahan in talks to re-script and direct an existing screenplay by David Guggenheim.

Some of you might be unfamiliar with Joe Carnahan, but you’ll definitely recognise him for his work. Throwback to his early career, he has won some critically acclaimed films incuding “Blood”, “Guts”, and “Bullets and Octane”, which were feaured at the New York Independent Feature Film Market in 1997 as well as at the Sundance Film Festival in 1998.
In addition to Carnahan’s recent project, he directed “Stretch” starring Patrick Wilson, Ed Helms, and Chris Pine, and had closed a deal in March to direct Dreamworks’ “Motorcade”. He also serves as executive producer in the NBC dramas “Blacklist” and “State of Affairs”.

Apparently Sony wants to cut the red tape on “Bad Boys 3″, hoping that the studio can have a movie ready to go by the time Will Smith wraps up the production for Warner Bros’ “Suicide Squad” in Toronto.
Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, “Bad Boys” had grossed over $140 million worldwide while “Bad Boys 2″ over $270 million.
