Remember that time when Warner Bros. announced its full movie slate for the DC Cinematic Universe? The studio also made announcements about the other cinematic universes too, one of which was the LEGO Cinematic Universe.
Following the massive box office success of “The LEGO Movie“, the studio slotted 3 new LEGO-branded films to be released over the next 4 years. And today (21st April), Warner Bros. finally unveiled all the release dates of the franchise.
The spinoff film, “LEGO Ninjago”, was originally slotted for release on 23rd September 2016. However, the studio has delayed its release to a year later as it is now slated for release on 22nd September 2017.
“LEGO Batman” will now be the 1st new LEGO movie to be released from the franchise. It was supposed to be released on 26th May 2017, but the studio has now slotted it for release on 10th February 2017.
Will Arnett will return to reprise the voice of the Caped Crusader and the directors of the original film, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, will produce along with Roy Lee and Dan Lin. Animation supervisor Chris McKay was originally attached to direct, but it was later announced that “Community” director Rob Schrab will helm the project instead.

As for the sequel, LEGO fans will need to wait another 3 years as the studio announced that it will be released on 18th May 2018. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is officially titled “The LEGO Movie Sequel”.
Regarding the LEGO Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros. domestic distribution president Dan Fellman said in a statement:
These 3 films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come.
No further details regarding the sequels and spinoffs were announced yet, but Lord and Miller are hoping that the sequel could feature Marvel characters too.
