Yes, yes, we know, it totally sucks that “Fifty Shades of Grey” won’t make it to Malaysian cinemas. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t talk about the amazing cast and their antics while the movie is midway into its heavy promotional campaign.
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, “Fifty Shades of Grey” is an erotic romance movie adapted from the novel of the same name by British author E. L. James. The novel is notable for its erotic content that featured sexual practices involving bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism (BDSM). However, the plot mainly centres on the life of Anastasia Steele, a college graduate who falls for Christian Grey, a young business magnate.
For the movie adaptation, Jamie Dornan plays Christian Grey while Anastasia Steele will be played by American actress Dakota Johnson. The movie also stars Victor Rasuk as Jose, Eloise Mumford as Kate, Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, and Luke Grimes as Elliot Grey.
Jamie Dornan recently turned up on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to play a little game called “Fifty Shades of Accents”, where both the star and the host was required to read out lines from the saucy S&M best-selling book, but it a range of different accents.
Dakota Johnson, on the other hand, was featured in a Saturday Night Live (SNL) promo where she was made to repeat one of the most awkward moments from the 87th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars), which was held on 22nd Feb 2015. In case you missed the awkward red carpet moment, a reporter asked Dakota’s mom aka Melanie Griffith if she’d seen her daughter in “Fifty Shades of Grey” yet. To which Melanie answered, “She’s a really good actress. I don’t need to see that to know how good she is.”
Dakota then reacted like a teenager and scoffed at her mother:
On SNL, Dakota (bless her awesome sense of humour) is seen mocking herself because of the awkward moment seen in the above Oscars red carpet video snippet.
Much like the Oscars red carpet interview, American actor Taram Killam asks Dakota if her mother ever watched “Fifty Shades of Grey“, to which Dakota replied with a whiny voice and begs her mom to change her mind. She says to the camera, “Mom, please watch it. Mooom.” Taram also enlists Dakota to list out the types, or rather, shades of grey as well as getting her to help him decide on a grey tie. Pun totally intended, of course.

Meanwhile, “Fifty Shades of Grey” is doing swimmingly well, having opened with USD93 million over Presidents Day weekend. It also went on to earn the title of the highest grossing February debut. It’s so popular, there’s even a LEGO spoof of it.
