Yeah, peeps. It appears that “delightfully tacky yet unrefined” restaurant chain Hooters known for its buffalo wings and waitresses (Hooters Girls) that are all about the boobies, is planning to open up an outlet (or two, or three) in Malaysia.
According to Business Wire, Hooters of America, LLC, announced an extensive development agreement to open 30 Hooters locations throughout Southeast Asia over the next 6 years. After introducing the world-famous restaurant concept to Thailand with the opening of Hooters Phuket, international franchisee Destination Resorts Co., Ltd., has set sights on Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as Hong Kong and Macau.
Hooters’ first foray into Asia was in Singapore in December 1996. It was less than a year ago when the iconic Hooters Girls first welcomed guests in Patong, Phuket, the entertainment and dining district of the province.
According to Destination Resorts Co. CEO Gary Murray:
The moment the doors opened to Hooters Phuket we realized the tremendous opportunity to greatly broaden our efforts to develop the Hooters brand across Asia. We pride ourselves on introducing fresh, exciting concepts to our guests, and the unparalleled Hooters dining experience fits that profile.
The Hooters chain currently has 430 outlets in 28 countries, but we’re not sure if Malaysia will be successfully added to their family of restaurants considering how this could very well come across as “obscene entertainment” (read: Hooters Girls).
Plus, let’s not get our hopes up high for now because the idea of a Hooters restaurant in Malaysia might not even sit well with certain religious parties.
You know how it is.
