BB Plaza, one of Kuala Lumpur’s oldest shopping malls will be making its way out this March. The mall, built and managed by the Federal Government’s own Urban Development Authority (UDA) Holdings, has lost its glow and customers as well as business due to the rise of more upscale and trendier neighbours such as Pavilion and the refurbished Fahrenheit88.

Most damaging to its business is the ongoing construction of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line right in front of BB Plaza, a project that has completely blocked the facade of the building, forcing front-facing stores to either close up temporarily or shut down for good.

UDA Holdings chairperson Johari Abdul Ghani said last year that the MRT-related development would tie in with BB Plaza’s rejuvenation, with the mall set to be connected to the underground MRT station, The Rakyat Post reports.

Although the plan might still be in the works, BB Plaza itself won’t be around to see it. Come March, the entire mall would have been cleared out as UDA Holding has plans of building a 60-storey luxury condominium tower standing on top of a three-level shopping mall.

So long, BB Plaza :( Share with us your fondest memory of BB Plaza by sounding off in the comments.
