Well, well, what do you know? Jason Momoa has been keeping secrets about his role as Aquaman for so long that he has now laid all the cards on the table after Warner Bros announced the full movie slate for the DC Comics films!
The “Game of Thrones” actor finally talked about playing Aquaman while attending the Walker Stalker Con in Atlanta last weekend.
During a conversation with the moderator, he explained that he is just glad that he doesn’t have to keep secrets anymore as he was sworn to secrecy regarding his role:
Listen, I was asked to play it. You know, you audition and stuff like that, but the fact is you’ve just got to keep it quiet. You know what I mean, I was just trying to respect Warner Bros. and everyone’s wishes. I’m really, really happy that I don’t have to be quiet anymore, because that’s really hard for me.
Having studied Marina Biology in college, the actor said that although he can’t telepathically communicate with marine animals in real-life, he “rode some dolphins before” which may help him with his Aquaman preparation.
He also revealed that the greatest thing about being able to play Aquaman is because of his Polynesian heritage. The actor emphasised that it is an honour to be a Polynesian and thought “it’s cool be a part of DC’s universe”:
Yeah, I did go to school for Marine Biology, but the cool thing is…the greatest thing for me is that Polynesians, our gods, Kahoali, Maui, all these water gods, so it’s really cool and a honour to be playing a (water) character. And there’s not too many brown superheroes, so I’m really looking forward to representing the Polynesians, the natives.
When asked about whether he has read any Aquaman comics, he said, “When I was growing up, I really liked Spawn and Lobo. I read stuff like that. Lobo I was a big fan of. I didn’t read a lot of Aquaman, but I am now, and I will do the research.”
Moving on to the topic surrounding Aquaman solo movie, Momoa made it clear that he doesn’t want to get quoted on what he said even though he let slipped that it might probably be his whole origin story. He also said that other characters are casted in the “Justice League” but he has no idea who they were and will only find out about these characters once Warner Bros makes their announcement.
Although the film is under development, Momoa revealed that there’s no script written for the film yet and it is not known if Warner Bros is going to bring any romance to Aquaman solo movie. It seems like Warner Bros’ current primary focus is on the “Justice League” film, where they could be deciding which superheroes or villains will make their cameo appearances in the film.
So, what do you think about Aquaman solo movie? Do you think it will continue the story from the first “Justice League” film or his whole origin story? Let us know in the comments box below!
