Abu Dhabi played host to film stars and other leading lights of the international film world gathered for the opening of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival hosted by Jaeger-LeCoultre.
As a major player in watchmaking history, celebrating its 180th anniversary this year, Jaeger- LeCoultre has a longstanding connection with the film industry. For close to a decade, Jaeger-LeCoultre has been closely associated with the best artistic film festivals around the world and pays tribute to filmmakers’ creative ingenuity.
Abu Dhabi Film Festival, in partnership with Swiss watch Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre presented acclaimed US actor Forest Whitaker with a Black Pearl Career Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to the art of cinema. Whitaker received the Award from Festival Director Ali Al-Jabri and Jaeger-LeCoultre CEO, Daniel Riedo, with a legendary Reverso watch, a timeless classic in a reversible case that was chosen by Jaeger-LeCoultre to commemorate the occasion.
Forest Whitaker has won 23 major acting awards, including the Academy, Screen Actor’s Guild and BAFTA awards, for his performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland (2006). He has starred in iconic films like The Crying Game (1992) as well as turning his hand to producing (Fruitvale Station) and directing films such as Hope Floats, 1998 and Waiting To Exhale.
