Residents of Taman Mayang are mourning for the loss of Dickson Wong, a 22 year-old university student who was a victim of a snatch thief in the early hours of Saturday. Wong fell into a coma after being assaulted in the head while he was walking to a nearby convenience store.
He was found bleeding profusely and barely alive by a passer-by. Wong had died after failing to regain consciousness.
To pay tribute and offer condolences to Dickson, the loving residents of Taman Mayang, Petaling Jaya put up banners in memory of his death. According to residents, they had also put up these banners to urge the public who witnessed the incident to come forward. Some of the banners were seen in the Kelana Jaya LRT station which read “Where is justice? We are all terrified now. Dickson has been laid to rest, but who will be next?”
Residents also ‘renamed’ the alleyway in which Dickson fell victim to “Lorong Dickson Wong” or Dickson Lane.
Several sources have also indicated that these residents fall prey to snatch theft almost every week. Residents hope that the relevant authorities will take proactive measures to ensure their safety.
