*NSYNC’s too-fast-to-catch performance on the recent VMAs has caused quite a roar with their fans as JT has allegedly “upset” former bandmates, Joey Fantone, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick and JC Chasez when he decided to cut more *NSYNC songs from his 15-minute set, leaving enough time for them to perform a medley of “Gone”, “Girlfriend” and “Bye, Bye, Bye.”
In an interview with a magazine, an inside source reported “They were pushing for more,” adding “While [Timberlake] was thrilled they could come for him, he didn’t want the reunion to steal the limelight [off Justin]. They originally were told that it was going to be more of their old hits, not just “Bye Bye Bye”—but then Justin reworked it.”
It wouldn’t come to a surprise that the boys wished that they had more time on stage since Timberlake brained the whole thing together for the VMAs. Chasez revealed in an interview with Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, he mentioned that JT called him up and said, “Hey man, listen. I’m getting this award and they have given me a pile of time to perform and we started our careers at MTV and I think we should get the band back together.” Chasez however didn’t sound as “upset” as reported after being off the charts for the last 11 years.
The boys of *NSYNC should count their lucky stars as their brief appearance on the VMAs did them some justice as the sales of the group’s 2000 song “Bye, Bye, Bye” hiked 156 percent, according to The Wrap. Perhaps it is time for an official “Bye,Bye, Bye?”
