While people were busy with the MTV Video Music Awards in Brooklyn, ‘other’ were up all night as pop-legend Prince performed to a crowd of 500 with his band New Power Generation (NPG) all morning!
According to sources, City Winery in Chicago had blasted out emails pertaining to NPG’s sixth and final show, with speculations to feature the return of Prince in a sold-out mini concert.
The band NPG, which has an 11-piece brass section and badass ladies on keys (Cassandra O’Neal) and vocals (Shelby J. and Liv Warfield), went on at around 1am, playing their own songs.
Soon after, Shelby exclaimed that there isn’t any curfew that night, promising the crowd to party till the sun comes up. Although guests had no clue what was in stored , although many had not guessed that the legend is preparing himself for a wild night backstage!
Cee Lo Green, dressed in what seemed to be pyjamas or a bathrobe, took stage to perform the 87′ hit “U Got The Look.” Shortly after, Doug E. Fresh, the American rapper and producer performed “The Show” and “La Di Da Di’.
As guessed, Prince took stage at 3am, sang songs from his past including medleys and covers from Chaka Khan, Mary J. Blige and many more. Also seen was The Roots’ Questlove, providing blow-by-blow updates via his Twitter account.
Many who attended the concert proclaimed that it was quite an amazing performance!
