Hidden somewhere in Karlsruhe, Germany, a children’s school, Kindergarten Die Katze brings smiles as the school is build in the adorable shape of a giant, white cat! Artist, Tomi Ungerer and architect Ayla-Suzan Yöndel, designed the building to make it a delightful experience for the kids attending the school. The beautifully designed and built kindergarten gives the students an opportunity to enter through the mouth of the cat into the belly of the feline with the capacity to hold 100 children.
The whimsical design brings a breath of fresh air, injecting humour and joy to the students thus making it a fun experience for them. The building is shaped like a crouching kitty cat with its ears upright, looking like the feline is ready to pounce.
The cat’s eyes are circular windows at the front of the building whereas the tail is actually a functional slide! The kitty kindergarten provides all the usual amenities such as classroom, coatrooms, a kitchen dining room and a main hall. We sure envy the students and their ‘meow-riffic’ school!
Artist, Tomi Ungerer, is an award winning illustrator and trilingual author with 140 books published. Tomi’s career also includes Architectural design, Invention, Advertising and Sculpture.
Isn’t that just cute?
