Ever had one of those cute yellow rubber ducks bobbing along in your bathtub as a child? Hong Kong will be hosting its first ever maritime art exhibition at Ocean Terminal, Harbour Cit, featuring a giant rubber duck!
The opening ceremony of Rubber Duck Project @ Harbour City was held at Ocean Terminal, Harbour City. Welcomed by the last Hong Kong Chinese sailing boat “Duk Ling” and nearly a thousand Hong Kong citizens as well as tourists, Dutch conceptual artist Florentijn Hofman’s classic masterpiece – the giant “Rubber Duck” sailed into Harbour City.
With Victoria Harbour as its giant bathtub, the display of 16.5-meter high “Rubber Duck” is literally the first Hong Kong maritime art exhibition. This is also the very first time that Florentijn Hofman has collaborated with a shopping mall. Long before the arrival of the giant rubber duck, its coming was already a hot topic!
The event was kicked off by Hong Kong Police Silver Band. And officiating guests, Ms. Yen Leng, Executive Director of Harbour City Estates Limited and Dr. Peter Lam, Chairman of Hong Kong Tourism Board shared their thoughts of this cooperation and expressed thanks to Florentijn Hofman and curator Mr. SK Lam, Creative Director of AllRightsReserved.
At the official ceremony, Florentijn Hofman said:
I am very happy to come to Hong Kong with Rubber Duck. Though there were a lot challenges during the production, with the full support and close co-operation of the production team, we can finally launch this exhibition.
