Less than a week after four suspects were arrested in connection with the attempted robbery and murder of jogger 52-year-old Irene Ong Ai Sam at Bukit Gasing, police have confirmed that they’re moving closer to wrapping up their investigation.
Today, it was reported that two more men were arrested. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Arjunaidi Mohamed said the two suspects, in their 20s, were arrested in Kuala Lumpur. However, he declined to comment on the details of the arrest of the two suspects or their background.
Police also seized a motorcycle from one of the suspects.
This brings to six the number of suspects held in connection with Irene Ong Ai Sam’s murder. All six suspects were remanded to facilitate investigations.
Irene Ong Ai Sam was out with her 17-year-old daughter, Hui Wei, when two men on a motorcycle approached them. She put up a fight to protect her daughter and was stabbed several times before they fled the scene empty-handed. She was rushed to University Malaya Medical Centre but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
