Earlier today, a bunch of us colleagues headed out to lunch just a few floors below our HQ. We weren’t gone for very long – an hour tops. So imagine our surprise when we came back to our HQ to find everything fine and dandy and intact except for several valuables that went missing.
The “best part” of this finding was that our HQ doors weren’t broken. It was almost a clean break-in until we uncovered CCTV footage of the said theft:
At first glance, it looks like it was just a dispatch guy gone bad who decided on a whim to commit thievery. Our colleagues lost five laptops in total – three of which were Apple Macbook Pros, one HP Envy Spectre XT, and a HP Folio 13.
Soon after, our big brother site, Lowyat.net noticed that some of their readers/followers have already started a thread in their forum regarding the issue. While rummaging through their discussion posts and comments, one particular post stood out amongst the rest, which led us to think that this could be not just another dispatch guy gone bad.
This one:
A similar looking man was caught on CCTV just last week at G Tower (along Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur) after committing a similar crime. Even his sling bag is similar. It gave us the assumption that this man has probably been around and is not as amateur as he makes himself out to be (read: dressing). He could’ve even been from a syndicate – which wouldn’t be entirely surprising.
This raises concern for some of us who work in companies where high-end technology is an integral part of what we do. If you see this man suspiciously loitering around your office lobby or anywhere in office towers, do alert the security:
After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
