“G.I. Joe: Retaliation”, The Rough & Tough

What, you didn’t watch the other G.I. Joe film installments in the past? That’s okay – you wouldn’t have missed much. See, the beauty about “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” is the fact that it’s not one of those epic few-part action films where you absolutely have to remember characters and plots from the past story lines to fully understand the current. Case at hand, the Matrix-type stories.

But that just means that you shouldn’t have high expectations for “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” to have much of a personality.

To us, that’s perfect fine because who doesn’t like a full-on action film where you’re not required to think while watching the likes of Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Byung-hun Lee, and Adrianne Palicki run around trying to save the world? Or to watch a firefly blow things up at command (quite literally)? Scratch that. How about watching a large chunk of the UK blow up at command with other cities soon to follow?

Having said that, all the (good guy) characters to make it through the entire ordeal – it is an action film after all.

It’s also safe to say that “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” is a lot less corny than we expected with smart, witty lines in tow. The most standout character? It has to be Roadblock (played by Dwayne Johnson). That’s right, we just called him “Dwayne Johnson” and not “The Rock”. It is with “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” that we realized how well Dwayne has managed to transition from being a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) wrestler to an action film hero. When you really think about it, there hasn’t been anyone else who has crossed over so seamlessly.

Props to Dwayne, of course, for playing his role(s) so well!

There’s also that breathtaking extended fight scene that we beg you to keep a look out for and not blink when it’s happening. Especially so if you’re watching it in IMAX 3D. It’s the one in the Himalayas and to be quite honest, it’ll make all the other fight scenes in the film really lame looking.  Also, if you’re afraid of heights, then we’re sorry in advance but you’re going to have to hold on to your armrest:

But please do not attempt to leave the cinema.

“G.I. Joe Retaliation” is slated for a 28th March 2013 (Thursday) release. That’s today!
