Come 23rd March 2013 (Saturday), iconic buildings in our metropolitan city such as the Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower are set to “turn it off” for one hour, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. Even major shopping malls such as Pavilion KL, Fahrenheit 88, and Starhill on Jalan Bukit Bintang will be powering down. So if you happen to be in the city, don’t get shocked!
The turning off of lights is part of Malaysia’s participation in the annual Earth Hour event. Kuala Lumpur is no stranger to participating in the event – our city is, after all, one of the 7,000 cities across 153 countries around the globe to take part annually.
BBKLCC Tourism Association chairman Joyce Yap said all non-essential lights would be switched off from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. But don’t worry; nobody will be left stranded in pitch blackness because there would be adequate lighting for safety and security purposes. Some retail outlets in Fahrenheit 88 will be offering a 60% shopping discount during the event, while Pavilion will be organising a children’s performance where they will use illuminated costumes.
Last year, Starbucks Malaysia rewarded Malaysians who came together for Earth Hour 2012 by offering complimentary (Starbucks signature) Frappucinos.
So, you want in on the fun, earth-friendly event? You know where to go on 23rd March!
