Multiple images and a video have been released for the Matt Damon-starred science fiction film, “The Martian“.
The images were not only of Damon, as we were given a 1st look at “Looper” actor Jeff Daniels‘ character as well. At the same time, 20th Century Fox has released a promotional video, which takes the form of a “faux informational video”.
The viral video was shot from the point-of-view of fictional astronaut Mark Watney (played by Damon) and it showed the cast as the astronauts who were ready to launch their spaceship, Hermes, into space in an hour’s time. The fully-manned expedition to Mars has 6 team members, which includes Watney, Major Rick Martinez (played by Michael Peña), Commander Melissa Lewis (played by Jessica Chastain), Dr. Chris Beck (played by Sebastian Stan), Alex Vogel (played by Aksel Hennie), and Beth Johanssen (played by Kate Mara).
Take a look at the video here:
“The Martian” is based on a best-selling novel of the same name, which was written by American author Andy Weir. In March 2013, 20th Century Fox optioned the movie rights to the adaptation and employed Drew Goddard to direct and write the script for the film.
The synopsis of the film is as follows:
In the film, Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.
The movie also sees Ridley Scott (Blade Runner), Simon Kinberg (Cinderella), Michael Schaefer (Now You See Me), Mark Huffam (Saving Private Ryan), and Aditya Sood (Let’s Be Cops) as producers. Additional cast include Kristen Wiiga, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover as Annie Montrose, Venkat Kapoor, and Rich Purnell.
“The Martian” is slated for cinematic release worldwide on 25th November 2015.
