Nobu Kuala Lumpur takes Japanese cuisine to new heights.
Globally renowned chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa, was in Kuala Lumpur on May 20th (Wednesday) to celebrate the official grand opening of the Nobu Kuala Lumpur restaurant. Accompanied by Robert De Niro and Meir Teper, and joined by Her Royal Highness Tengku Zatashah Idris Shah, daughter of His Royal Highness, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, The Sultan of Selangor, and Tan Sri Syed Yusof Tun Syed Nasir, the owners of Nobu Kuala Lumpur, the VIPs led an outfit to beat a set of special Taiko drums.

Used during special occasions, including celebration performances, guests present during the grand opening ceremony were entertained by the energetic beats and electrifying rhythm of the Taiko. Following the drum performance, 350 exclusively invited guests experience a traditional sake ceremony which took place on a stage set in the heart of Nobu Kuala Lumpur.
Known as Kagami-biraki – a ceremony traditionally performed at celebratory events, the lid of a sake barrel that symbolises harmony was broken with a wooden mallet signifying the welcoming of good fortune. Leading guests in the Japanese custom that has since become a tradition for Nobu globally was Chef Nobuyuki himself.

“Nobu Kuala Lumpur is an immersive experience inside a world-famous landmark. The restaurant represents a unique confluence of stunning interior design by architect Severine Tatangelo of Studio PCH and culinary genius for which Nobu Matsuhisa has come to be known,” he added.
It was a night filled with fun, media and celebrations that included a Malaysian founded, and widely popular Japanese Taiko drum troupe, Wadaiko Syo, whose inventive beats resounded throughout the entire restaurant. Guests were also treated to floating Japanese origami cranes – Nobu cuisine comprising of a wide canapé selection of Lobster Ceviche with Quinoa, Matsuhisa Shrimp with Caviar, Langoustine Tempura with Amazu Ponzu, Black Cod on Butter Lettuce, and Yellowtail Jalapeno, and distinctive Nobu cocktails like the Matsuhisa martini and Mia margarita.
