An image that has been circulating on the interwebs shows a receipt (dated 17th May 2015) from a Nando’s Malaysia outlet located at IOI City Mall which had a Hokkien derogatary term printed on it.

As most of you might know, the Nando’s restaurant chain in Malaysia, especially, has always been popular for its wicked sense of humour (read: ads). But this was perhaps taking it a little too far:

Nando's IOI City Mall Cibai Customer Receipt

Note: In case you’re wondering, a Nando’s IOI City Mall employee was calling a customer a “C*BAI” aka a female’s genitalia in Hokkien.

Needless to say, it didn’t take long for it to become a complete PR disaster as the incident blew up all over the local interwebs, with Facebook users and Nando’s fans taking to Facebook to express their sheer disgust. Some users have even asked Nando’s for an explanation over the incident, saying the company should apologise for the behaviour of its staff.

As such, Nando’s restaurant have taken to their Facebook page (under the comments section of this post) to clarify:

This incident has ruffled all our feathers at Nando’s and we do take matters like these very seriously. We have gotten in touch with the customer and that we are very grateful that she accepted our apologies. We feel really bad for such disrespectful behaviour from our crew member. We are very sorry and appreciate you taking the time to inform us. As of today, the staff in question has been officially terminated from employment. We thank all of you for your support and we apologise on behalf of our staff for any offense he may have caused anyone else.

Nobody really know how or why the unnecessarily harsh term came to be on the receipt though. Your guess is as good as ours!
