Oh dear, the world just got a little more complicated in the DC Comics Universe.
“Glee” star Grant Gustin is best known for portraying Barry Allen in The CW‘s “The Flash“. However, he isn’t the only actor to assume the identity because “The LEGO Movie” writer-director Phil Lord confirmed that Ezra Miller, who is set to star in the “The Flash” solo movie, will be introduced as Barry Allen in the upcoming DC Comics film by Warner Bros. Pictures as well.
The news, which came on heels of the season finale of The CW’s “The Flash”, was announced during Lord’s recent interview with The Hippojuice Podcast.
Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, The Flash (aka the “Scarlet Speedster”, the “Crimson Comet”, and “The Blur”) is a fictional superhero who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. He has the ability to run and move extremely fast, use superhuman reflexes, and seemingly violate certain laws of physics.
There are 4 different characters who have assumed the identity of The Flash: Jay Garrick (1940–present), Barry Allen (1956–1985, 2008–present), Wally West (1986–2006, 2007–2012, 2013–present), and Bart Allen (2006–2007). The most popular version of The Flash is, of course, Barry Allen, and he is currently being portrayed by Gustin at The CW.

Since it was already revealed that Miller will also be portraying The Flash, many assumed that the movie will introduce him as the Wally West version of The Flash. However, Lord shot down the rumours by announcing that a new iteration of Barry Allen will be featured in the movie too.
He said:
We’re trying to break a story. It’s interesting, because there’s a really popular TV show out there, and we’re trying to carve out space for the movie that’s apart from that. I think we’re doing alright. …I believe (our Flash) is going to be Barry Allen. …We’re more trying to stick with the cinematic universe… It really is its own thing and is kind of a stand-alone movie. We’re just trying to think of the best story. I think you guys will like it, it’s kind of a different take on superhero stuff. I’m optimistic!
Does that mean Warner Bros. will kill off Gustin’s character in the TV series? Not necessarily, especially since the studio may have a bigger budget for the movie and there’s no TV continuity.

Miller is expected to appear as The Flash in “Justice League: Part One”, which will arrive on 17th November 2017. His solo movie will arrive on 23rd March 2018.
