Appearances can be deceiving and Mia Wasikowska is learning it the hard way through her character in “Crimson Peak“, an upcoming horror movie by Spanish filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.

A total of 2 new trailers of the gothic-period horror film made their debut online recently, featuring tonnes of never-before-seen footage.

Del Toro, dubbed the Spanish master of horror, is best known for directing 2006’s “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “Pacific Rim”, in 2013. Through “Crimson Peak”, he creeps back to his horror roots by directing and co-writing it with Matthew Robbins and Lucina Coxon.

He served as the producer of the movie alongside Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, and Callum Greene while Jillian Share executive produced it. Sexual and violent content are expected to be seen in this character-driven film that has been rated R.

Wasikowska plays Edith Cushing, a young woman who falls in love with Sir Thomas Sharpe, a mysterious yet charismatic suitor (played by Tom Hiddleston). She is taken back to Sharpe’s ancestral home, where he introduces his sister, Lady Lucille Sharpe (played by “Interstellar” actress Jessica Chastain) to Cushing. However, she soon discovers the horrifying truth behind the Sharpe siblings and the house that “breathes, bleeds, and remembers”.

The new synopsis is as follows:

When her heart is stolen by a seductive stranger, a young woman is swept away to a house atop a mountain of blood-red clay: a place filled with secrets that will haunt her forever. Between desire and darkness, between mystery and madness, lies the truth behind Crimson Peak.

One sure sign that this is a highly-anticipated horror movie is because horror legend Stephen King tweeted that it is “gorgeous and “f***ing terrifying” that it “electrified” him in the same way Sam Rami’s “Evil Dead” did. His son Joe Hill also tweeted:

Sherlock” actor Benedict Cumberbatch was originally sought for Hiddleston’s role, but he eventually dropped out of the production. Charlie Hunnam, who previously worked with del Toro on “Pacific Rim”, is joining the movie to portray Cushing’s childhood friend, Dr. Alan McMichael.

Co-produced by Legendary Picture and Universal Pictures, “Crimson Peak” is scheduled for release on 16th Oct 2015.
