Inspirits (as fans of INFINITE are lovingly known), get ready to fangirl (or fanboy) because the leader of INFINITE, Kim Sunggyu is back with 2 solo title tracks!
Sunggyu caught fans by surprise when he released the music video for “Kontrol” unannounced late last night.
Not only did Sunggyu contributed his vocals for this comeback, he also showed off his acting capabilities as he took up the role of the main character in the music video for “Kontrol”.
With its steady beats and melancholic melody, the song portrays Sunggyu’s longing for a girl who left him. The music video interspersed scenes between his memories and also reality, leaving audience with a cliffhanger at the end. We are unsure if he ended up with the female lead or everything was just happening inside his head. The music video boldly depicted the heartbreak a young man has to go through.
However, rumours that are circulating amongst Inspirits on the Internet stated that the music video is actually dedicated to an Inspirit who, unfortunately, perished during the Sewol ferry tragedy. Fans pointed out that the yellow ribbon (which is used in memory of the Sewol ferry victims) can be found in certain scenes of the video. The girl, who is coincidentally wearing a school uniform, was seen to be looking out to the river at the end of the video. Fans have also interpreted her wet hair as another sign of the homage.
“Kontrol” is written, composed, and arranged by Kim Jong Wan of popular indie rock band Nell.
