An Instagram handle dedicated to music?
Yes, please! While Instagram has grown to be a significant platform for established and aspiring artistes alike to connect with their fans on a more personal level, the Facebook owned photo-sharing platform has always been short of an official community dedicated to highlighting the influential world of music.
But, that’s all about to change now.
Following its most recent upgrade which now allows for emoji hashtags, Instagram has now launched an official music community under the handle, @music. This new handle signifies the first time Instagram has dedicated an account to a single subject. CEO/Founder Kevin Systrom shares the concept of the new handle, explaining that its introduction has been long overdue:
“The music community is — and always has been — an important part of Instagram. For the past four years, we have become the home for artists big and small — a place where people across the musical spectrum come to share stories, reveal their creativity and connect directly with fans.”
@music will host 11 series and six posts per week from Tuesday to Sunday, helping users discover new artistes and other fans with similar taste in music. From established musicians to budding up-and-comers, Instagram will engage 300 million Instagrammers by highlighting music photographers, album illustrators and instrument makers via music-themed hashtags.
