Malaysian actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and her husband are reportedly stranded in Nepal, following an earthquake that shook the country on Saturday (25th April).
The 7.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal left thousands dead and according to The Guardian, at least 17 people believed to have been killed on Everest as well as 61 injured by an avalanche which left mountaineers calling for helicopter assistance to evacuate the most badly wounded.
A powerful aftershock was felt on Sunday (26th April) in Nepal, India and Bangladesh, and more avalanches were reported near Everest. The 6.7-magnitude tremor, centred 60km (40 miles) east of Kathmandu, sent people running in panic for open ground in the city.
As at time of writing, according to a BBC report, at least 3,326 people are now known to have died, with more than 6,500 people injured, and dozens of people reported to have been killed in neighbouring China and India.
Officials have warned that the number of casualties could rise as rescue teams reach remote mountainous areas of western Nepal.
On Sunday (26th April), world motor sport governing body FIA (Federation Internationale De L’Automobile) released a statement to say that it held its inaugural Asia-Pacific Sport Regional Congress in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, and that members who attended include its president Jean Todt and road safety ambassador Michelle Yeoh.
The statement added that all members of the FIA party and Congress delegates are safe and accounted for.
