The Clown Prince of Crime is here and he certainly doesn’t look like he’s in the right mind.
For the past few months, director David Ayer has been releasing a series of behind-the-scenes photos of his upcoming antihero film, “Suicide Squad“. He also teased the DC Comics fans by giving them a brief glimpse at Jared Leto‘s transformation into The Joker.
In celebration of the Joker’s 75th anniversary, Ayer finally took to Twitter to reveal the first official look at Leto as the Batman’s archenemy:

Ayer first teased the new Joker look in March by releasing a photo that briefly showed Leto’s new clean-shaven look. The actor himself then took to his official Snapchat account to show us a slightly closer and clearer look of himself as the character. He can be seen sporting the villain’s trademark green hair and red lip.
Leto’s character was previously portrayed by Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, and the late Heath Ledger. It will be interesting to see how he will tackle the character in “Suicide Squad” as the Joker could have already been serving some time in the prison.
As you can see from the tweet, Ayer’s version of The Joker looks more muscular, taking design cues from Frank Miller’s “All-Star Batman and Robin” title. Leto’s expression is also a nod to the cover of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s “Killing Joke”. The tattoos are slightly tacky, but they are something new as lots of DC Comics fans claimed that he never really had one in the original comic books. It is unclear whether the tattoos will stay on his body forever, but he can do anything he wants to his body because he does things in very spontaneous ways.
Of course, this is just our first official look at the Joker. We don’t know how he will actually look like in the movie, what we do know is that Leto looks really psychotic, which is fitting for an equally crazy character.

“Suicide Squad” is based on the original DC Comic of the same name, where a group of supervillains find themselves going on a most unlikely mission for a shot at redemption. However, the mission will probably kill them all. The Joker isn’t a member of the squad, but he is the frequent accomplice and boyfriend of Harley Quinn.
Charles Roven and Richard Suckle serve as the producers of the film, which will be executive produced by Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson, and Geoff Johns. Ayer is attached to direct it, based on Justin Marks’ screenplay.
Slated for release on 5th August 2016, the movie also stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Common, and Jim Parrack. Jay Hernandez, Scott Eastwood, Adam Beach, Ike Barinholtz, and Viola Davis are also set to appear for the undisclosed roles.
