Sawyer Sweeten and his twin brother Sullivan were one-year-old when they were cast, along with their older sister Madylin, on the CBS family comedy show “Everybody Loves Raymond”.
The show inspired by the life of star Ray Romano, who also played the role of the father of the twins, saw Sawyer grow up before the eyes of millions as a child star on the series.
Early Thursday, the child star committed suicide, his sister said in a statement:
This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred. We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday. At this sensitive time, our family requests privacy and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love.”
Sawyer was only 19 years old.
Sawyer, known for his role Geoffrey Barone, was visiting family in Texas, where he is believed to have shot himself on the front porch, as reported by Hollywood Reporter. Born May 1995 in Brownwood, Texas, Sawyer was 10-years-old when the series ended its run in 2005 after 9 seasons.
A couple of months ago, we reported about Robin Williams committing suicide so we cannot stress how important it is for you to seek help if you’re facing problems. For those residing in Malaysia, you can always call the BeFrienders if you need a listening ear.
Our deepest condolences to the Sweeten family during this difficult time. May Sawyer rest in peace.
