We weren’t kidding when we said James Wan is one of the most sought after directors of the year. He is currently enjoying tremendous success for directing the 7th instalment of the “Fast & Furious” franchise, “Furious 7“.  It was also recently reported that he is currently being eyed to direct Warner Bros.‘ upcoming DC Comics film, “Aquaman“.

And now, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported that Wan will produce a remake of the 1982 horror classic, “The Entity”.

Directed by Sidney J. Furie, “The Entity” is a 1982 horror film based on the novel of the same name by Frank De Filetta. Critically-acclaimed director Martin Scorsese (of “Shutter Island” and “Goodfellas” fame) once mentioned that it is “one of the scariest horror films of all time”. The story revolves around Carla Moran, a young single mother who was tormented by an invisible assailant. Moran was portrayed by Barbara Hershey, who later also starred in James Wan’s “Insidious” film franchise.

Despite its extreme imagery and unsettling plot, Furie told journalist Michael Doyle in an interview with Rue Morgue magazine that he considered the film to be more of a “supernatural suspense movie” instead. In fact, he revealed that neither he nor Hershey met with the real-life Carla Moran.

David Labiosa, who played Moran’s teenage son Billy, also told Doyle that a dream sequence from the book was not included in the film because the plot described that the mother was forced by the entity to have incestuous thoughts about her own son.

Wan is not attached to direct the remake, but he will produce alongside “The Poltergeist” remake producer Roy Lee. He will, however, return to his horror roots through the sequel of his hit horror film “The Conjuring”.

Titled “The Enfield Poltergeist”, the sequel will begin shooting this fall. As for Roy, he is currently prepping for Cary Fukunaga’s adaptation of Stephen King’s “It” this summer. Chad and Carey Hayes, who worked together with Wan on “The Conjuring” franchise, will pen the script.

No further details were announced yet, but you can check out the trailer of the original film below:
