Starring Hugh Jackman, Warner Bros.’ upcoming fantasy film “Pan” has a new release date.
The movie, which retells the origin of Peter Pan, was originally scheduled for release on the big screens on 24th July. However, Warner Bros. announced that they will move it to a much later date – 9th October 2015.
The move allowed the producing team to have sufficient time for post production. They are also capitalising on the fact that the release date will take place during the school holidays, making it easier to reach their target audience including children and families.
It also lifted “Pan” from a crowded movie season, since Marvel‘s “Antman” and Universal Pictures‘ “Trainwreck” are scheduled to be released in the cinemas on 17th July, while Sony‘s “Pixels” and Fox‘s “Paper Towns” are slated for release on 24th July.
Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.‘s president of domestic distribution, said:
We wanted to give “Pan” the space to extend its theatrical run, so taking it out of the cluttered summer season made the most sense. Moving the film to the heart of the fall will allow us more time to screen the picture, enabling us to capitalize on what we anticipate will be strong word of mouth.
The decision was supported by Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, president of international distribution, who stated:
Peter Pan is a beloved figure the world over, and the fall corridor is perfect for this epic adventure story that explores the origins of this young hero. In many markets we can take advantage of school holidays that ensure a greater opportunity for families to enjoy “Pan” together.
Director Joe Wright also agreed with the move, as he expressed:
As you might expect, the fantastical story of Peter Pan involves very complex effects and I did not want to compromise on quality in finishing the film. This allows me and my team the time to complete the movie and tell the story the way it should be told.
The other films slated for release on 9th October 2015 are Universal’s “Steve Jobs” and Relativity’s “Kidnap”.
