Some stories we heard about the Playboy Mansion may be true, but some of them are just myths and speculations. You may think that the story about the secret tunnels is just a belated April Fool’s joke, but it’s not, especially when one of the editors of Playboy magazine found some unseen Polaroids that led them to a stack of abandoned blueprints.

According to Playboy.com, the editor found these Polaroid photos dated 1977 when he was pulling photos from the office archives for a feature set to run on Playboy owner Hugh Hefner’s birthday. The new general manager at The Mansion told them that these photos were most probably taken “when they built the tunnels in the 70s”.

After securing an invite to The Mansion, the editorial team was led to an unfinished basement area to check out the undiscovered old photos, plans, and blueprints.

Of all the blueprints they’ve found, only 2 of them caught their attention.

One of the blueprints showed that there were advanced plans to build secret tunnels to a number of celebrity home near the Playboy Mansion in the Los Angeles residence.

While it’s not surprising to hear that some celebrities have all-access passes to the Mansion, this is the first time that celebrities had plans to build secret tunnels to their own homes.

Another blueprint showed that the tunnels were connected to the homes of “Mr. J. Nicholson”, “Mr. W. Beatty”, “Mr. K. Douglas”, and “Mr. J. Caan.”

If you were wondering who are the mentioned celebrities, the team said:

We’ll go ahead and assume they’re talking about Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, Kirk Douglas, and James Caan – all of whom lived near the Playboy Mansion during the late 1970s and early 1980s. There are no dates on the architectural schematics, but the dates on the Polaroids were from 1977.

Beatty, Nicholson, and Caan were regular visitors of the Mansion, so we are definitely not surprised by that. Caan also stayed with Hefner at the Mansion for a long period of time during the 70s.

When the editorial team asked the staff whether they could see the tunnels, one of the Mansion staff said, “I heard they were closed up sometime in 1989.” The general manager stated that he “couldn’t discuss it further” while the other Mansion staff said that Mr. Hefner “did not wish to comment”.

Playboy has reached out to reps for all the celebrities mentioned in the blueprint, but none of them agreed to comment.

We are not really sure how to feel about this, but do you think the secret tunnels are real?
