A 6-year-old girl fell 5 floors to her death at the Kenanga Wholesale City mall on Friday (3rd April). She fell from the second floor of the mall and was found sprawled on the basement.
Prior to the tragedy, the victim was spotted near an escalator with her parents and sibling in the 3:04pm incident.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khiruddin Drahman said:
They were ready to climb it (escalator) when she slipped and fell through a gap between the escalator and the rail. At that time, her mother was holding another baby, while the victim was left on her own. She died on the spot after falling. Investigation is still ongoing. We will check whether the mall has adhered to safety regulations.
A video since been circulating online via the Perak Today Facebook page, supposedly of the girl playing by the Kenanga Wholesale City mall escalator.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainol Samah confirmed that the girl, Nurhayada Sofia Musa who came to the mall with her parents, died on the spot due to serious head injury.
KL CID chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad, on the other hand, said in a statement:
Dang Wangi control centre received a call from the public informing that a Malay girl had fallen from the car park at the mall. Officers from the Kenanga police station arrived at the location and confirmed the incident. The girl was 6-years-old and paramedics at the scene confirmed that the victim had died from injuries to the head. For now, the case is being classified as sudden death.
The victim’s body was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem.
