We know, we know, anticipation for the show’s 5th season is at an all-time high, especially when it’s just about 2 weeks before Season 5 premieres in the US as well as everywhere else around the globe. But, the “Game of Thrones” fandom just got super real. So real that somewhere in Asia, a remake is in the works.

Yes yes, y’all. India will reportedly create its own version of the hit international TV series.

Game of Thrones Iron Throne

The Independent wrote that the new TV series will take its lead from George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones” and will feature characters that are closely based on the TV series and also, the books. RT, on the other hand, reported that although the Indian version of the TV series is based on George R. R. Martin’s books, it will have an entirely different plot.

From what we know, it’ll be called “Rani Mahal”, which means “Queen’s Paradise”.

The new series will star Indian television actress Sakshi Tanwar, famed in India for “Ekta Kapoor’s Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki”, in a Daenerys-inspired lead role. “Yeh Mohabbatein” star Anita Hassanandani will play the power-mad Cersei while Parth Samthaan from MTV’s “Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan”, will play “You know nothing” Jon Snow. More Indian stars are already being lined up to play “Game of Thrones“-inspired characters as we speak.

That having said, because “Rani Mahal” will be set in the year of the Indian Mutiny of 1857. it’s highly unlikely to feture Daenerys’ famed dragons.

The series will reportedly be broadcast by Sony Entertainment TV and Ary News.

Sure, it’s sounds ambitious, but let’s not forget that India has taken popular American TV and given it a new spin. In 2013, India produced its own version of “24” starring “Slumdog Millionaire” actor Anil Kapoor as a character based on Jack Bauer; Kapoor himself was actually on Season 8 of “24,” and was so into the concept that he bought the rights to make it in India.

Would you watch this version? To be honest, we do want to see how “Rani Mahal” would turn out. Anyone else feels the same?
