After “Dracula Untold” star Luke Evans officially announced his departure from Relativity’s upcoming reboot of cult classic “The Crow“, the studio was struggling to lock down a lead actor for the film.
Fortunately, it didn’t take too long for the studio to confirm the cast of the reboot because “Boardwalk Empire” actor Jack Huston is reportedly going to portray Eric Draven, a role originally played by the late Brandon Lee in the 1994 dark thriller film.
Starring the late Brandon Lee, “The Crow” is a 1994 American fantasy action film directed by Alex Provas. David J. Schow and John Shirley wrote the screenplay based on James O’Barr’s 1989 comic book of the same name and the plot centres on Eric Draven, a poetic rock musician who is revived from the dead to avenge his murder and the death of his fiancée. It was said to be one of the cursed Hollywood movies as Brandon Lee was killed on set due to an accidental shooting.
The film marked Brandon’s final film appearance, but it has since attained a strong cult following.
Evans was originally set to star in the film when director F. Javier Gutierrez was attached to helm the project. However, Gutierrez exited the project to direct “Rings” for Paramount and director Corin Hardy came aboard to direct the film instead. Evans then decided to pursue other projects instead when the production was delayed with no start date.
He wasn’t only the actor to have departed from the film as Marvel franchise stars Bradley Cooper and Tom Hiddleston were in talks to star as the lead actors too.
And now, Jack Huston, who is best known for his role as the facially disfigured Richard Harrow on “Boardwalk Empire”, is going to portray Eric Draven.
The English actor had a starring role as Jack Kerouac in 2013’s “Kill Your Darlings” and as Pete Musane in David O. Russell’s comedy-drama “American Hustle“. He will be seen next in “The Longest Ride”, “Pride, Prejudice and Zombies”, and “Ben Hur”.
Directed by Corin Hardy, “The Crow” will begin filming later this year.
