There’s no definite answer as to how many TV or movie reboots we need in a year. From “The Crow” to “Ghostbusters” to “Underworld“, the list is endless. However, if there’s a movie reboot we’re excited to see, it’s “Tomb Raider”.
Though Angelina Jolie already won us over with her portrayal of Lara Croft in the original “Tomb Raider” film, the movie certainly deserves a second chance to win us over again.
It was announced in 2013 that Graham King, the founder of GK Films will team up with MGM to produce the movie and Marti Noxon will pen the script. But now, Deadline is reporting Warner Bros has signed on co-produce and co-finance the film while screenwriter Evan Daugherty is set to pen the script.
“Tomb Raider” is a popular video game franchise that was first adapted into a movie in 2001. Due to the success of the first movie, a sequel was released in 2003 with Angelina Jolie returning to star. The films grossed $432 million worldwide. In 2011, GK Film acquired the film rights to release an origin story reboot. Darrell Gallagher, head of Crystal Dynamics, revealed to Variety that the film will focus on a younger Lara Croft going on her first adventure.
Since the deal with Warner Bros features a strong progress-to-production language, the project is currently being fast-tracked.
Warner Bros. executive Jon Berg will oversee the project for the studio while Cassidy Lange will oversee for MGM and Denis O’Sullivan will oversee for King’s GK Films. Though we are excited to see it, we are setting our expectations low since Daugherty’s recent work includes “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”(TMNT), “Divergent“, “Snow White And The Huntsman“, and “G.I. Joe 3″.
