We know, we know, you still can’t get over the fact that Spider-Man is officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, can you? Well, if you follow our site regularly, you’d know that we posted an article about an alleged casting call for “The Amazing Spider-Man 3″ from New York-based casting agency Bill Beckman Casting. Up until now, we still don’t know if it’s legit because other than debunking the recasting rumours on Andrew Garfield’s role, there’s no updates to this piece of news.
However, Variety is now reporting that Sony Pictures is looking for a much young actor to replace Andrew Garfield because the studio is planning to get the character to go back to high school.
Initially slated for release on 4th May 2018, the release date of the upcoming “The Amazing Spider-Man” movie has been moved forward to 28th July 2017. Sources told Variety that Sony wants to hire a new director to replace Marc Webb, the director of “The Amazing Spider-Man” films. This would match the earlier report about the casting call because apparently, Webb wasn’t listed as the director of the new “The Amazing Spider-Man” film.
Variety then learned from their sources that Sony is currently eyeing several actors to play the web slinger and the shortlisted candidates include Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman.
Best known for his role in MTV’s “Teen Wolf”, Dylan O’Brien’s popularity is on a steady rise since he joined the “The Maze Runner” franchise as the lead character. As for Logan Lerman, he is best known for his roles in “The Perks of Being A Wallflower” and the “Percy Jackson” franchise. So far, they are the only actors who are being considered to play Spider-Man even though fans are hoping to see Donald Glover/Childish Gambino to play Miles Morales, the young African-American Spider-Man from the “Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man” comic book series.
There are a lot of decisions to make at Sony Pictures because Marvel needs to introduce the new Spider-Man through “Captain America: Civil War” in 2016. Plus, it is unclear how the character will be introduced in the new solo franchise so the studio will need to decide whether to bring the same ol’ Peter Parker back to the big screen or introduce Miles Morales instead. Introducing Morales to the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be a plus point because this allows Sony to introduce more racial diversity in the franchise.
While we await Sony or Marvel to release new details about the Spider-Man franchise, who do you think should play Spider-Man? Share your thoughts in the comments box below.
