In June 2014, it was announced that a new SpongeBob movie would soon be making its way to our silver screens. A month plus later, we got our first look at the “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” characters.

The new movie, produced by Nickelodeon & Paramount pictures, “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Sponge Out Of Water”, will feature SpongeBob getting out of the ocean for his most super-heroic adventure yet. While you can expect the animated adventure to be just another long-form episode of the show, the makers have got a few tricks up their sleeves for this one.

The SpongeBob Movie Sponge Out of Water

For starters, in this movie, the animated sections will be in 3D, blending both CGI and hand-drawn techniques. There will also be some live action scenes which will be folded into the animated stuff. Think cartoon and real life worlds colliding.

The synopsis is as follows:

Life is dandy in Bikini Bottom for SpongeBob Squarepants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and his friends Patrick (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke), Squidward (voiced by Rodger Bumpass), Mr. Krabs (voiced by Clancy Brown), and Sandy (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence). However, when the top-secret recipe for Krabby Patties is stolen, SpongeBob finds that he must join forces with perpetual adversary Plankton (voiced by Mr. Lawrence) and come ashore to battle a fiendish pirate named Burger Beard (voiced by Antonio Banderas), who has his own plans for the delicious delicacies.

What other tricks did the “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” makers pull for the upcoming movie? We’ll let you find out when the movie is released in Malaysia cinemas come 5th March 2015.
