Casting for a number of “Star Wars” spin-off films are currently underway at the Pinewood Studios as various Hollywood actresses are being eyed to play the female lead in a spin-off film.
While we await the release of a new teaser for J.J. Abram’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens“, multiple sources close to the production told The Hollywood Reporter that things are already moving forward on the 1st “Star Wars” spin-off film with Tatiana Maslany, Rooney Mara, Felicity Jones being tested for the leading role.
Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany has starred in various TV series and films but she is best known for her outstanding performance as multiple clones in BBC America’s hit series “Orphan Black”. She now joins Rooney Mara, who is best known for role in David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, in being shortlisted to play the female lead of the “Star Wars” spin-off film. It was recently reported that Mara’s sister, Kate Mara is also said to be tested for the role.
English actress Felicity Jones recently received widespread critical acclaim for her role in “The Theory of Everything” and she is also being tested for the role. However, the Oscar-nominated actress may have scheduling issues as she is set to co-star in Ron Howard’s “Inferno”, the sequel to the “Da Vinci Code.”
Directed by “Godzilla” director Gareth Edwards, it is confirmed that the “Star Wars” standalone movie is slated for release on 16th December 2016 but plot or character details have yet to be announced. Sources also tell THR that reading and testing for the movie occurred in the UK in last December but it has moved stateside now.
After turning in his draft, screenwriter Gary Whitta left the project and rumour has it that Simon Kinberg may take over the writing for the film. However, sources said Kinberg has no plans to take over since he is currently co-writing Josh Trank’s “Star Wars” standalone movie with Lawrence Kasdan. He is also penning the script for Fox’s “X-Men: Apocalypse” and putting finishing touches to the script he rewrote for Fox’s “The Fantastic Four.”
