Can you feel it? The awards season is finally here!

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) is leading the awards season with the 72nd Golden Globe Awards on 11th Jan (Sunday) in Beverly Hills, California. It is going to be one of the biggest nights in Hollywood as world renowned directors and Hollywood’s A-list nominees will gather at the Beverly Hilton Hotel to witness the prestigious awards show.

2015 Golden Globes

Produced by Dick Clark Productions in association with the HFPA, the award honours the best in film and American television of 2014. With comediennes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returning to host the show, viewers can expect to get loads of fun and laughter from their funny monologues and pop culture references.

The awards show will broadcast live from the hotel on 11th Jan by NBC and since there are only a few days left, we suggest you get your popcorns ready and check out the list below to know what you can expect from the show:

Third time’s a charm: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler return as co-hosts

Having watched Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host the show since the 70th Golden Globes, it’s safe to say that the comedienne duo has this unstoppable energy that will make us yearn for more epic jokes from them. The two will return to host the Golden Globe Awards for the third consecutive year and it will be their last time hosting the award show.

They’ve received praises for their exceptionally funny jokes and both of them tend to keep the mood light throughout the awards show. Their opening monologues and hilarious pop culture references have been among the highlights of the previous ceremonies. Thus, viewers can expect real entertainment at the 72nd Golden Globes.

Miss Golden Globe is an annual title awarded by the HFPA to the daughter of a celebrity. The role may seem insignificant but the Miss Golden Globe will be the one assist in the Association’s Golden Globe Awards.

For the upcoming Golden Globes, HFPA President Theo Kingma announced that MTV series “Awkward” star Greer Grammer is this year’s Miss Golden Globe. He made the announcement at the star-studded Miss Golden Globe party in the Fig and Olive Restaurant, West Hollywood. The 22-year-old actress is the daughter of three-time Golden Globe winner Kelsey Grammer and she will assist in handing out the golden statuette to the winners of the respective awards this Sunday.

On 11th Dec, Miss Golden Globes Greer Grammer joined a line of celebrities including Kate Beckinsale, Peter Krause, Paula Patton, and Jeremy Piven to announce the nominations for the 72nd Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

In the film category, Fox Searchlight’s “Birdman” led the award with 7 nominations, followed by “Boyhood” and “The Imitation Game” with 5 nominations. Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” scored a “Best Comedy/Musical” nom with Disney’s “Into The Woods” and Weinsteins’ “St Vincent”. British actors Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch received a nom for the “Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture – Drama” for their portrayals of Stephen Hawking and Alan Turning. The category also includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Steve Carrell, and David Oyelowo.

As for the TV category series category, “House of Cards” and “The Affair” led the award with 3 nominations. Check out the complete list of nomimees here.

The oldest nomimee vs. the youngest nominee

When it comes to honouring the best in film or TV, age is just a number. 84-year-old “The Judge” actor Robert Duvall is the oldest acting nominee at 2015 Golden Globes as he was nominated for “Best Performance By An Actor In A Supporting Role In A Motion Picture”. He received rave reviews from the critics for his committed and excellent acting in “The Judge”.

The age gap for this year’s Golden Globes is rather huge as the age difference is 73 years. “Annie” star Quvenzhané Wallis ousted Shailene Woodley as the youngest nominee at the Golden Globes. Wallis will turn 12 this year but she already a rising star in Hollywood.

Roses, roses everywhere

Celebrity florist Mark’s Garden was once again invited to provide flower arrangements at the prestigious award this Sunday. Believe it or not, a total of 10,000 roses will be used for the big night and the flowers will have names like Freedom, Wimbledon, Tycoon and Pink Floyd.

According to Mark’s Garden co-owner Mark Held, the flowers are expected to arrive at the venue on 11th Jan from Ecuador so that they can work on them for two days straight.

Menu, please?

No, we don’t get to enjoy the food that will be served at the 72nd Golden Globes but we can, at least, take a look at the Globes’ menu at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. Over 150 serving staff will be working for the Golden Globes to serve the food specially prepared by the Hilton’s executive chef, Troy N. Thompson.

Thompson prepared his recipes specially catered to the guests as the menu also include vegan and gluten-free options. Golden Globes stated on its website that the kitchen has prepared more than 700 lbs. of beef cylinders (turned from beef tenderloins), more than 400 lbs. of fish (to make filet mignon and salmon), 1,000 heads of Romaine, 10,000 silverware and plate settings, 600 full-sized bottles of wine, and 400 Moët & Chandon magnums for the big night. 1,500 Moët Impérial minis will be passed out on the red carpet too.

In addition, a dessert trio that consists of Cassis lemon cheesecake, chocolate alliance salted caramel, and hazelnut dacquoise will be prepared by executive pastry chef Thomas Henzi. Guests can opt to savour a scrumptious julienne of apple, celery, and grapes in an emulsion of whipped egg white and lemon juice or a special cocktail created by Ingrid Bergman’s granddaughter, Elettra Wiedermann, whose Mom is Golden Globe nominee, Isabella Rosellini.

Already a winner

Cecil B. DeMille award 2015 - George Clooney

Before the awards season even takes off, the HFPA earlier announced that “Gravity” star George Clooney is the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille award for 2015 Golden Globes. The award is named after a legendary director of the same name and it was handed out during the ceremony to those who’ve made “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”.

Theo Kingma, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, explained in a statement the HFPA’s Board of Directors chose Clooney as this year’s recipient to celebrate his outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera. He will be seen next in Disney’s sci-fi film “Tomorrowland”.
