We’ve already got the top 10 stories (in our opinion and based on the stories we wrote about, of course) of the year. Now let’s take a look a great big taboo – the most pirated TV shows of the year. We say “taboo” because pirated and based on popular file-sharing site, TorrentFreak. Which TV show came out on top, you ask?
According to TorrentFreak, one TV show’s 2014 season finale was downloaded more than 8 million times via BitTorrent. Yes, that TV show would be American fantasy drama series, “Game of Thrones” (GoT).
This would also mark GoT’s third year running as the most pirated TV show of the year. The now-all-too-famous S4 finale‘s downloads were so fast, so rampant, and so many that it surpassed the second place show, “The Walking Dead”, which garnered almost 4.8 million downloads.
Here, allow us to treat you to some GoT S4 bloopers, which was previewed during the show’s 2014 San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) panel:
Legally, GoT’s S4 finale drew 7.1 million viewers on HBO in US, beating the 5.4 million who tuned in for the previous season’s last episode. Inclusive of repeats, it drew a whopping number of 9.3 million people. Phew!
Anyway, here are the top 10 most pirated TV shows of the year:
- Game of Thrones (check out some S5 teasers here)
- The Walking Dead (we also get this on Malaysian TV, btw)
- The Big Bang Theory (RIP Carol Ann Susi aka the voice of Mrs. Wolowitz)
- How I Met Your Mother (we still prefer the alternate ending)
- Gotham (we reviewed it here)
- Arrow
- Grey’s Anatomy
- Vikings
- Suits (remember when we spent a little time with
Mike RossPatrick J Adams when he was in Malaysia?) - South Park (also available on Malaysian TV, surprisingly!)
Okay, kinda bummed that “The Originals“, “Revenge“, and “The Vampire Diaries” didn’t make the cut.
Oh well!
