We first met American pop rock band Boys Like Girls when they were in town in June 2012 for Livescape Asia’s Rockawayfest Showcase. Having seen their live performance without first listening to their EP or their LP (it was only released after the show), we could only wait with bated breaths for the album launch.
Also, we managed to speak to the band’s lead guitarist Paul DiGiovanni briefly about working on “Crazy World” so you can imagine how excited we were to finally get ouFer hands on a copy.
Did it exceed our expectations?
The last we heard from Boys Like Girls (and we mean that quite literally) was when they made a duet with country darling Taylor Swift for “Two Is Better Than One”. Soon after, they went on that hiatus of theirs. So when we heard that they were back, we were looking forward to hear another top class power ballad written by Martin Johnson (Boys Like Girls vocalist and frontman). That search for a love tune wasn’t in vain though. It landed us right smack in the song, “Be Your Everything“:
We know, we know. We should save (what we think is) the best song for last but this one totally stole our hearts (and took our breaths) away.
We’re not sure what kind of genius Martin is because only he can come up with lyrics like these:
We’ve got a story but I’m about to change the ending.
You’re perfect for me and more than just a friend,
So we can just stop pretending now.
I gotta let you know somehow.
I’ll be your shelter, I’ll be your storm,
I’ll make you shiver, I’ll keep you warm,
Whatever weather, baby I’m yours,
Be your forever, be your fling,
Baby I will be your everything.
See now that doesn’t take much convincing to love. Right? Thought so.
Then we take it up a notch with the summery “Life Of The Party”. If you’re looking to be driving in sunny ol’ Malaysia on an easy weekend, this is the song you want to be blasting over your player. Or over your iPod – whichever works best. We must remind you though that for all that its catchy beats is worth, “Life Of The Party” is definitely best shared with friends. Especially if you know the words to the song:
Finally, Martin goes all semi-country mode with “The First Time“. In true Nashville-style, he sings about an “old white cherokee” and the “old diner” that was shut down. It sure sounds like he’s reminiscing and going back to his roots. Or rather, meeting his first love again after putting years in the gap between them.

Can you relate? We think some of us can. Oh, and whether you’re ready or not, Boys Like Girls is back. Take note.
Boys Like Girls’ “Crazy World” is available now at a music store near you. Alternatively, you could also purchase the album off iTunes here.
