Now, it’s only a matter of time before Marvel announces the premiere date of Netflix’s untitled Luke Cage series as the studio has recently announced another cast member will be joining Netflix’s “A.K.A. Jessica Jones”.
“A.K.A Jessica Jones” is one of Netflix’s multi-show deal with Marvel with “Breaking Bad” actress Krysten Ritter set to play the female lead. Marvel has now confirmed that another major character will be added to the series as it has recently been announced that “The Good Wife” star Mike Colter is set to star in the film as Luke Cage.
Mike Colter is best known for his roles in various critically-acclaimed TV series, including “The Following”, “The Good Wife”, and “American Horror Story: Coven”. The character he’s about to portray in “A.K.A. Jessica Jones” is known as Luke Cage, an African-American superhero with superhuman strength and stamina. He possesses great strength and high resistance to physical injury as a result of a cellular regeneration experiment which fortified tissues in his body.
Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg of the series is “excited to have him bringing this iconic Marvel character to life” as he believes that “Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage”. Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television also said:
Fans have longed to see Luke Cage and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor. Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.
In the comic book series, Luke Cage marries Jessica Jones, a private investigator he met during the course of an investigation in New York City. The couple had a daughter in the Marvel Universe as well.

However, it is unclear how they will portray their relationship in the series but Marvel described that Jones’ encounter with the mysterious Luke Cage “will dramatically alter her in ways she could never have imagined”.
The synopsis of “A.K.A Jessica Jones” is as follows:
After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
A stand-alone series for Luke Cage is currently underway but the premiere date has yet to be announced. Produced by Marvel Television, Marvel’s “A.K.A. Jessica Jones” is a 13-episode series that will be distributed by Netflix in 2015 but it is not known how many episodes Mike Colter has signed to appear in.
Mike Colter will be seen next as Jameson Locke in XBox original series “Halo: Nightfall”, which is also a live-action adaptation of “Halo” video game franchise.
