Benedict Cumberbatch will once again prove that he is a versatile actor as the “Sherlock” star will become the Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange“.
The actor, who recently announced his engagement, has officially joined Marvel’s Cinematic Universe through his role as Doctor Stephen Strange in Marvel’s upcoming film. He was one of the first names suggested to play the character, alongside Tom Hardy.
Despite his busy schedule, the actor managed to squeeze some time in to become a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Her” star Joaquin Phoenix originally emerged as the potential actor to portray the role as he is Marvel’s top choice to play the Sorcerer Supreme. However, the negotiations eventually fell apart and the casting was back to square one. “Matrix” actor Keanu Reeves and Jared Leto were also rumoured to take up the lead role but Deadline debunked all the rumours by reporting that Marvel was trying to lock down Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.
“Deliver Us From Evil” director Scott Derrickson will direct “Doctor Strange” while Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts will rewrite the script. Marvel has confirmed that the story will follow neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange, who discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions after a horrific car accident.
Thus, it is assumed that the film will be a doorway to the “mind-trippy” supernatural side of Marvel’s Universe, where the evil forces of the inter-dimensional demons Dormammu and Baron Mordo could be the potential villains for the film.
