Things are not looking so great for Alicia Keys as she has been slapped with a copyright infringement suit from songwriter Earl Shuman. Her newest single, “Girl on Fire” is in big trouble because apparently, it sounds just like Earl’s “Hey There Lonely Girl”.
Uh oh:
“Hey There Lonely Girl” is a song created by Earl Shuman and it was sung by Eddie Holman in 1962. The genius songwriter declared that the Grammy Award winning singer took parts of the one-time-hit into her current single.
Blogger Roger Friedman from Showbiz411, commented about the similarity, “In the middle of the song, Alicia sings a couplet or so from Eddie Holman’s 1970 classic ‘Hey There Lonely Girl.’ The song was written by Leon Carr and Earl Shuman, who are both gone to rock and rock and roll heaven.” (Source)
After noticing the post that Friedman wrote, Shuman then commented saying, “Hi Roger, I am the co-writer of ‘Hey There Lonely Girl’ and I appreciate your recognizing an important part of ‘Lonely Girl’ in Alicia Keys’ new recording. Whoops. Some blooper that was! In any case, there has been no reports on Alicia Keys commenting about this matter as of yet. Hmm. We’re assuming someone somewhere will be getting fired soon, no? And girl, you’ve got some explaining to do!
