Earlier in August, we wrote about Disney’s upcoming fairytale masterpiece film which will come with a modern day twist called, “Into The Woods”.
If you haven’t heard, the film is an upcoming British-American musical fantasy film based on the Tony Award–winning eponymous Broadway musical by award-winning stage director James Lapine and American composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Believe it or not, the original musical debuted in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986, and premiered on Broadway on 1987. So it’s safe to say that “Into the Woods” is a tale that’s as old as time!
The film version, however, will be directed by Rob Marshall (of 2005’s “Memoirs of a Geisha” fame) and adapted by James Lapine. What’s more interesting is that “Into the Woods” will feature an all-star ensemble cast including:
- Meryl Streep as The Witch
- Emily Blunt as The Baker’s Wife
- James Corden as The Baker
- Anna Kendrick as Cinderella
- Chris Pine as Cinderella’s Prince
- Lilla Crawford Little Red Riding Hood
- Daniel Huttlestone as Jack
- Tracey Ullman as Jack’s Mother
- Christine Baranski as Cinderella’s Stepmother
- Mackenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel
- Billy Magnussen as Rapunzel’s Prince
- Johnny Depp as The Wolf
And what’s even more interesting is the storyline!
The fantasy genre crossover “Into the Woods” film centres on a childless couple, who set out to end a curse placed on them by a vengeful witch. A modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, it intertwines the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel, all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.
Oh, yes, there will also be some singing, since it’s based on a Broadway musical
