First released n 2004, Diplo’s trip-hop, beat exploration album, Florida, became the then 25-year-old producer’s breakthrough movement that first placed him on the map. The album featured Vybz Kartel and led to a gig opening for RJD2. Now, in celebration of ten years of Diplo’s rise to producer dominance, Ninja Tunes’ imprint Big Dada will be reissuing Florida along with the Epistemology Suite EP and five unreleased tracks.
Looking back, the 35-year-old DJ says the record represents the first 23 years of his life in a post on his Instagram account.

10 years ago.. i made my first album, “Florida,” between a small apartment in Philly and my mom’s house in Florida.. i was working late nights and taking a bus through the city every night, smoking some weed, putting on headphones & just making things I never heard before and could just imagine.. making this record created an entirely new world for me. now that i think back it’s a very strange beginning and it’s crazy it’s been 10 years since it’s first release but really this record represents my first 23 years of life.. what i had inside of me and where i came from so i’m excited to revisit it.. i put it up on soundcloud for all of you to hear.. a special re-release will come black friday
Included below are “Into the Sun” and “As I Lay Dying,” two of the five previously unreleased Florida tunes that nothing like Diplo’s current stuff. Surprisingly contemporary, the electronica hop house songs flow smoothly in tune with today’s future house movement while still hinting at the Los Angeles producer’s unique twist on electronic music.
The Florida reissue arrives on November 28th on Big Dada.
