It’s a little too late but it’s better late than never, right?

After winning the worldwide distribution rights to an animated film based on the hit game “Angry Birds” last year, Sony announced that SNL cast member Jason Sudeikis will join the voice cast of the film as the leading role, “Red”. And if you were wondering how the characters would look like in the film, well, their wings and legs are more “visible” now:

The addictive mobile game “Angry Birds” emerged as a global phenomenon after it was launched in 2009. The game involves using slingshots to launch little birds at fortresses built by green pigs. It became an addictive game to play with due to its level of difficulty.

Because the game has become one of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises, Sony Pictures Entertainment jumped at the chance to produce an animated 3D film with game-creator Rovio Entertainment.

Other leading roles in the film include the yellow speedy Chuck that will be voiced by “The Internship” actor Josh Gad and the volatile Bomb voiced by Danny McBride. “Game of Thrones” actor Peter Dinklage is set to voice the most powerful bird in the Angry Birds universe, “The Mighty Eagle”.

Jason Sudeikis’s co-stars include fellow SNL cast members, Bill Hader and Maya Rudolph as the green pig and Mother Hen of the flock, Mathilda respectively. Other SNL cast members that will voice act in the film includes Kate McKinnon, Keegan-Michael Key, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, and Jillian Bell.

Latin musician Romeo Santos and YouTube stars Smosh (Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla) have also joined the voice cast of the film for unspecified roles.

Regarding the confirmed voice cast of the film, producer John Cohen said in a statement that he is “extremely proud of the cast”:

Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they’re surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent — these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we’re thrilled to have them all on board.

As “Angry Birds” is one of the brands that can drive massive fan engagement, Sony first announced the cast to the users of the app. Sony Pictures’ president of theatrical marketing Dwight Caines said:

Our filmmakers are cooking up a hilarious movie, and we know these fans can’t wait to see how they’re going to bring the Angry Birds’ story to life on the big screen of movie theaters.

We aren’t really surprised that “Angry Birds” will be made into a feature film since Spongebob also has its own movie. No matter what you think, the film is a go as it is scheduled for release on 1st July 2016.
