Now, whoever said that Malaysia ain’t got no talent, hmm?

In conjunction with our Malaysia Day, Google Malaysia organised a “Doodle 4 Google” competition which encouraged students to submit their most creative Google doodle with elements best associated with Malaysia.

The entries were judged on 3 aspects, one of which was artistic merit whereby the panel of judges, including Google staff and the public, evaluated the quality and skill demonstrated in the doodle, considering each contestant’s age group.

The “Doodle 4 Google” judging criteria included:

  • Artistic Merit: The quality and skill demonstrated in the doodle. The student’s age group is considered when evaluating this category.
  • Creativity: How well the student incorporated the Google logo into his or her illustration. The logo must be readable. Unique and creative uses of the letters, background, foreground, etc. are all taken into account.
  • Theme Communication: How clearly the competition theme is expressed in both the artwork and the written statement.

16-year-old Lee Yee Run of SMJK(C) Yoke Kuan in Sekinchan, Selangor emerged the grand winner of the competition with his artwork entitled, “Beauty of Malaysia”. You might’ve seen it on the Google Malaysia homepage today:

His doodle featured a colourful rendition of the Kuala Lumpur Tower, Petronas Twin Towers, and Penang Bridge along with the national flower Hibiscus, Jalur Gemilang national flag, and a beach scene.

“Many of us may have been caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, missing out the beauty of our country. Let’s step out of the box, travel to attractive spots, discover and embrace the true and unique colours of Malaysia. Malaysia to me and you is surely a beautiful place to stay,” he said in a short message, which accompanied his winning entry.

Beautifully drawn and beautifully said too!

A total of 20 “Doodle 4 Google” entries were shortlisted as finalists. Besides the 16-17 years-old category, the competition also comprised 3 other categories for ages 7-9, 10-12, and 13-15.

Vaisnawi Harulnathan of SJK(T) Vallambrosa, Klang, topped the ages 7-9 category:
