Marvel’s Executive Editorial Director, Ryan Penagos took to Twitter to announce that Howard the Duck will be making his Pop! debut in Funko later this year. He is the latest character to join the Funko’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” Pop! series after Marvel announced their first official Dancing Groot toy, also from Funko.
In case you were wondering, Howard the Duck made a cameo appearance in the post-credit scene of “Guardians of the Galaxy”, after escaping from The Collector’s cage. His brief cameo in the film surprised both movie goers and Marvel fans as the Howard the Duck movie has been cited as one of the worst movies in film history.
Director James Gunn has even clarified on Twitter that he was a huge fan of Steve Gerber’s Howard in the comics and not the Howard the Duck movie. The cameo appearance was meant to be a comic relief in the post-credit scene after they moved the Dancing Groot scene to be featured in the film instead.
Nonetheless, the release of the Howard the Duck toy has proved that it is still one of the most popular characters in “Guardians of the Galaxy”. There’s no info about the toys yet but Funko has announced that the info will be revealed next week. Marvel could be bringing more news about the characters that will be included in Funko Pop Series as well.
For now, we are keeping our fingers crossed that Ronan the Accuser and Nebula, or maybe even Cosmo can get their own bobble-heads too!
