If you think the #ALSIceBucketChallenge means nothing to anyone, think again. The ALS Association has now received over 22.9 million dollars in donations, all thanks to Facebook’s very own Mark Zuckerberg and celebrities who have accepted #IceBucketChallenge to spread awareness and raise money for the ALS Association!
But why are people dumping ice buckets on themselves, you ask?
The campaign was first started by ALS Association and the former Boston College Baseball player, Pete Frates on 29th July to spread awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) aka Lou Gehrig’s disease, a fatal neurodegenerative disease that attacks the brain and the spinal cord. Some people who suffered and are still suffering from ALS includes professional baseball player Lou Gehrig, Theoretical Physics & Cosmology Professor and author Stephen Hawking, and musician Jason Becker.
With this #IceBucketChallenge, people can keep up the tradition of passing the challenge along to friends, loved ones, or just about anyone they want. Those who fail to do the same will need to make a donation of USD100 to the ALS Association. Justin Timberlake, Super Junior’s Siwon, and even legendary actor Andy Lau are some of the celebrities who have accepted the challenge and have made their donations to the ALS Association.
While most of the members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have already accepted the challenge, Ben Affleck (who will be playing Batman in DC’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice“) became the first member in DC Cinematic Universe to join the campaign after being challenged by Tyler Perry. Unfortunately, the actor has not nominated his co-star including Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and the rumoured Aquaman Jason Momoa.
With a little help from his wife Jennifer Garner, this #IceBucketChallenge video is by far the most adorable video we’ve ever seen! Not that we’re biased or anything, but Ben Affleck wins this round of #IceBucketChallenge over Marvel Cinematic Universe! Watch:
